Defeated, Falkner awards you the {{badge|Zephyr}}, which ensures obedience from all Pokémon up to level 20, and enables the use of {{m|Rock Smash}} in the field. These pages follow the remade Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Gold and Silver. The guide for those games can be found here.
Route 30
On the second visit to Route 30, the Pokémon battle that had blocked the western road has ended, clearing the path northward.

Route 31
Route 31 is a small route that connects Route 30 and Violet City. The western entrance to Dark Cave is located here, but the area cannot be fully explored just yet.

A Gift
When you step inside the gate, Lyra/Ethan enters from the east. She/He gives you a gift, the Vs. Recorder. This device can record and replay battles, and allows you to share them with friends.
Violet City
Violet City is the first city with a Pokémon Gym. Other landmarks include Sprout Tower in the north, and Earl's Pokémon Academy in the east.

The Juggler
The Juggler outside the Pokémon Center likes to collect Shards, and will trade three different Berries for each one. The Berries obtained correspond to the shard's color.

Time for a Trade
The kid in the house near the Pokémon Center is looking for a Bellsprout. In return, he offers his Onix, Rocky. Rock Pokémon like this will be useful at the Violet Gym.
Pokémon School
The Pokémon School is where young Trainers learn how to raise Pokémon. The blackboard lists the five status ailments that can affect a Pokémon.
Ailment | Effect(s) | |
---|---|---|
BRN | Burn | Attack drops to 50%; inflicts damage equal to 1/8 of maximum HP every turn |
FRZ | Freeze | Cannot move until thawed (20% chance of recovery per turn) |
PAR | Paralysis | Speed drops to 25%; cannot attack 1/4 of the time |
PSN | Poison | Inflicts damage equal to 1/8 of maximum HP every turn; loses 1 HP for every four steps taken outside of battle |
SLP | Sleep | Cannot move for one to four turns |
Sprout Tower
Sprout Tower is a towering pagoda where Sages teach that all living things coexist through cooperation. Since these monks also train Pokémon, it's a good opportunity to train before challenging the Violet Gym.

2F
Battle Sage Nico and climb down the northeast ladder.
1F
Grab the Parlyz Heal, fight Sage Chow, and climb up the western ladder.
2F
Collect the X Accuracy and climb the southern ladder.
3F
Pick up the Potion and head north. It seems that Elder Li has just been defeated by Silver. The elder scolds him for being too harsh on his Pokémon, then Silver leaves via an Escape Rope. Grab the Escape Rope to the east, then speak to Li to be drawn into battle.
|
Li rewards you with TM70 (Flash), which illuminates certain areas. Use the Escape Rope to exit the tower, and set out for the first Gym.
Violet Gym
The Violet Gym specializes in Flying-type Pokémon. Clip their wings with Electric attacks, or knock them out of the sky with Rock moves. The traded Onix will be a big help, and Mareep can be found on Route 32 to the south. Avoid using Grass and Bug Pokémon. Step onto the wooden platform to reach the elevated walkway. This S-shaped battlefield has a Gym Trainer at each end, but it is possible to avoid both and reach Falkner immediately by traveling along the glass tiles.
|
Defeated, Falkner awards you the Zephyr Badge, which ensures obedience from all Pokémon up to level 20, and enables the use of Rock Smash in the field. He also hands over TM51 (Roost) as a prize. Roost restores 50% of the user's maximum HP, and Flying types that use it are treated as single-type Pokémon until the next turn.
A Favor
Elm calls when you leave the Gym, and asks that you speak with his aide inside the Poké Mart. The aide asks that you take care of the Mystery Egg, which will eventually hatch into a Togepi with the special Extrasensory move. The professor will call again when the Egg hatches, asking to see it; visit him with Togepi as the lead Pokémon to receive an Everstone.
Kimono Girl 1
Upon leaving the Poké Mart, you meet one of the Kimono Girls, five sisters from Ecruteak City's Dance Theater. She shows an interest in the "important" Egg, and asks that you take good care of it before leaving to the south.
Route 36
The next destination is Route 32 to the south, but detour to Route 36 in the west first. Speak to the man to receive HM06 (Rock Smash), a move that can now be used anytime in the field, thanks to the Zephyr Badge. On Thursdays, Arthur of the Week Siblings can be found here; speaking to him will result in a Hard Stone on the first meeting, and a Careless Ribbon on subsequent meetings.
