In the anime
Ash and his friends first arrive at Shalour City in Origins of Mega Evolution! to challenge the Shalour Gym. However, they discover that the Gym is inside the Tower of Mastery, which sits on an island only accessible during low tide. Before Ash is able to walk to the island, Ash attempts to master Tierno's rhythmic battle style which his Pokémon pick up but Ash does not. During low tide, Ash and the group eagerly enter the Tower of Mastery, where Gurkinn gives them a history lesson of Mega Evolution and mentions his "Scroll of Secrets". In Showdown at the Shalour Gym! Ash defeats Korrina with his unique battling style and earns the Rumble Badge.
Trivia
- Shalour's Japanese motto is 目覚めの 街 "A city of awakening".
- A Punk Guy in Shalour City's Pokémon Center references HarmoKnight.
- There is an unused item in X and Y named the Shalour Sable that says the city is famous for them. However, they are only obtainable in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
- A Worker in eastern Shalour City mentions he knows a Hiker who likes Ferris wheels who has finally found true love. This may be a reference to Hiker Andy in Nimbasa City in Black, White, Black 2, and White 2.
Origin
Shalour City's real-life counterpart is the city of Saint-Malo. At low tide, it is possible to cross the sea on foot from Saint-Malo to Grand Bé Island, where ancient ruins still stand.
