The Miscellaneous Promotional cards are cards that do not fit into any of the other articles in this category, released through a spectrum of Pokémon Trading Card Game-related promotions. The majority of these consist of reprints of cards from expansions with a special stamp, or with a holographic treatment. There are, however several unique cards, exclusive to high profile events or promotions also.
Information
- Wizards produced only a handful of special variant cards during their occupation (1999-2002, below) in comparison to Nintendo (2003-present, below). This in part is arguably due to the TCG's continued success, with promotional material released through Premier Events and POP-related merchandise.
Trivia
- In 2006, there was no Stadium Challenge tournament, so no promotional card was produced for the event.
- Holographic versions of δ Delta Species Pokémon from the POP Series sets are unique among holographic δ Delta Species cards, as they feature the "cosmic" holographic design as opposed to the plain holographic treatment every other δ Delta Species card features.
- In 2007, Gym and Stadium challenges were rejected in favor of Battle Road tournaments, similar to those in Japan. The promotional cards sported a new stamp logo for these events. State Championships also had their name expanded to "State/Province/Territory", the promotional cards sporting the modified stamp logo.
- With the beginning of the 2009-2010 Pokémon League season, POP packs were phased out with individual promotional cards once again. These cards have a unique cross-hatch reverse-holographic treatment with a POP logo watermark.
