Levitate (Japanese: ふゆう Floating) is an ability introduced in Generation III. Twenty-eight Pokémon have this ability naturally, most of them either Psychic- or Template:Type2s, making it the most prevalent ability in the games.
Effect
In battle
Levitate causes the user to be unaffected by Template:Type2 moves and Arena Trap. Despite the fact that the move Magnet Rise is said to change the Pokémon's ability to Levitate, this is not true — it merely renders the Pokémon immune to Ground attacks while still keeping its normal ability for five turns.
Outside of battle
Levitate has no effect outside of battle.

In the anime
Gengar. Gengar floats in the air around the battlefield.
- Activated by Fantina's Gengar in Shield with a Twist!. Debut.
Trivia
- Not all floating Pokémon have this ability. For example, Mew, who floats in the air, does not have Levitate.
- Despite the fact that its Generation IV description says that it gives full immunity to all Template:Type2 moves, Pokémon with Levitate are affected by Sand-Attack.
- Even if a levitating Pokémon uses Dig, Levitate still makes Earthquake and Magnitude miss.
- The ability Levitate is one way for a pure Electric-type Pokémon to get rid of its only weakness and become immune to it. However, there are no pure Electric-type Pokémon that can have Levitate as an ability as of Generation IV.
