Its head is covered in a cream-colored hair, except for the region around its eyes and ears, which is orange. Its body is a combination of the same orange fur with black stripes and completely black fur on its belly. It also has patches of cream-colored fur on its chest, legs and tail. Its paws each have three toes and a round pink pawpad underneath.

Special abilities
Arcanine can spit large trails of flame, as well as run with extreme speed. Like other Fire-type Pokémon, Arcanine has a flame (or possibly a flame sac) within its body.
Behavior

The two Trainers used their Arcanine to save Ash, Misty and Brock from falling off a cliff.

Trivia
- Arcanine originally had the name "Blaze."
- Arcanine is the only Pokémon with a stat total of 555.
- Arcanine has the highest base stats of any Pokémon that has only evolved once.
- Arcanine has the second-highest base stat average of any non-legendary and non-pseudo-legendary Pokémon, next to Slaking.
- Arcanine's Pokédex entry for Pokémon Yellow connects the Pokémon world with our own. It says "A legendary Pokémon in China. Many people are charmed by its grace and beauty while running."
- In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, it describes itself as having a speed that no one can match, but it is tied at the 68th fastest Pokémon with 20 others.
Origin
Arcanine is based on the Ryukyuan シーサー shisa, or koma-inu. They are mythical creatures that take inspiration from lions, tigers, and dogs. Statues of them in pairs are used as guardians and to invite good luck.
Name origin
Arcanine's name is a combination of arcane, meaning mysterious, and canine, meaning dog. Windie may refer to wind, because this Pokémon runs like a wind as if it was flying and at great speed.
