Walkthrough:Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl/Part 7

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
These pages follow the remade Nintendo Switch iteration, not Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The guide for those games can be found here.

Eterna Gym

Eterna Gym

Make sure to heal your Pokémon before entering the Gym. It is recommended that you train your Pokémon to at least Level 20-25 before challenging Gardenia.

The Eterna Gym is a Grass-type Gym with an indoor forest arranged in a maze-like pattern. All four Trainers hide among the trees and must be defeated before Gardenia will agree to battle. Each defeated Trainer will give you a hint about where to find the next one.

Grass-type Pokémon are weak to Fire-type, Ice-type, Flying-type, Bug-type, and Poison-type moves, so make sure you have at least one of those types represented in your party. If you picked Chimchar, this should be a breeze. Other good options available by this point include Ponyta from Route 211 (east), and Staravia evolved from Starly.

In order to challenge Gardenia, you will need to defeat the other trainers of the Gym who generally hide behind a tree. Lass Caroline can be found in the Northwest area, Aroma Lady Jenna in the Southwest, Aroma Lady Angela in the center and Beauty Lindsay in the Northeast. They will need to be defeated in that order and give a hint about the location of the next trainer.

Trainers with a Vs. Seeker by their names, when alerted for a rematch using the item, may use higher-level Pokémon.

Gardenia leads with her Level 19 Cherubi. It is the weakest member of her team, but watch out for Dazzling Gleam, which can hit Pokémon that resist Grass-type moves, and Safeguard, which protects her team from status conditions for five turns. Take it out quickly with a Fire-, Flying-, or Ice-type move before it can set up with Growth.

Her Level 19 Turtwig holds a Miracle Seed to power up its Grass-type moves and has the Shell Armor Ability, which prevents critical hits. It may use Reflect to halve the damage of your physical moves for five turns, then build its stats with Work Up. Target it with special Fire- or Ice-type moves to punch through Reflect.

Her Level 22 Roserade is the most dangerous member of her team. It holds a Sitrus Berry to heal itself and has the Technician Ability, boosting the power of its weaker moves. It can cripple your team with Stun Spore and deal solid damage with Grass Knot and Petal Blizzard. Poison Sting can also inflict poison. Roserade is Grass/Poison, so Psychic-type and Ground-type moves are also effective against it. Try to outspeed it and hit it hard before it can spread paralysis.

After the battle, Gardenia awards you the Forest Badge and five copies of TM86 (Grass Knot). Grass Knot is a special Grass-type move whose power increases with the target's weight, making it effective against many large Pokémon later in the game.

Team Galactic Eterna Building

If you hanven't before, you will meet Cynthia outside the building who will give you three copies of TM93 (Cut). You can now cut the trees to open the path and enter the building.

The Team Galactic Eterna Building spans four floors of Team Galactic Grunts, ending with Commander Jupiter at the top. Heal your team at the Pokémon Center before entering, as there is no way to restore HP inside.

Commander Jupiter is waiting on the 4th floor. Her Zubat knows Mean Look, which traps your Pokémon and prevents switching out. Take it down quickly with a Rock-type, Electric-type, or Psychic-type move before it can land a Poison Fang.

Her Skuntank is the real threat. It holds a Sitrus Berry and knows Flamethrower, which can punish Grass and Bug-type Pokémon you may have trained. Its Aftermath Ability deals damage to your Pokémon if you knock it out with a contact move, so prefer special or long-range attacks. Skuntank is only weak to Ground-type, making moves like Magnitude or Dig your best options.

After defeating Jupiter, she retreats and Team Galactic abandons the building. Use Cut on the small tree behind the building to pick up TM46 (Thief) from the path to the north, then head to the southeast corner of Eterna City for your reward.

Old Chateau

The Old Chateau is accessible by returning to Eterna Forest and using Cut on the cuttable tree near the northern exit. It is a crumbling, haunted mansion and one of the earliest places to catch Ghost-type Pokémon.

The only wild Pokémon here in BDSP is Gastly. It evolves into Haunter at Lv. 25 and into Gengar when traded. As Ghost-types, they are immune to Normal-type and Fighting-type moves, so use Ghost-type or Dark-type attacks.

After obtaining the National Pokédex much later in the game, the old television set on the 2nd floor comes to life. Interact with it to battle Rotom, a rare Electric/Ghost-type at Lv. 15. Rotom respawns the following day if you defeat or flee from it. Catching Rotom automatically grants you the Secret Key, which unlocks its alternate appliance forms.

Rad Rickshaw's Bike Shop

Rad Rickshaw has returned to his Cycle Shop after being freed. Speak to him to receive the Bike as a thank-you gift.

The Bike allows you to travel at high speed. Press B while riding to toggle between Gear 1 (slow, useful for tight spaces) and Gear 4 (fast). You will need the Bike to traverse Cycling Road on Route 206 heading south in the next part of the walkthrough.

If you want to catch a Gastly, make sure to visit the Old Chateau before visiting the Bike Shop. Once you receive the bike, the Bug Catcher near Route 205 will prevent you from reaching the Route for now and require you to continue towards the Cycling Road.

Route 211 (West)

Heading east from Eterna City leads to the western portion of Route 211, a short mountain trail that ends at the northern entrance of Mt. Coronet. There are only a few Trainers here, but the tall grass offers some worthwhile catches. Ponyta is a solid Fire-type option that evolves into Rapidash at Lv. 40. Meditite is a Fighting/Psychic-type that evolves into Medicham at Lv. 37.

Mount Coronet (North)

The northern entrance to Mt. Coronet from Route 211 opens into a network of dimly lit caverns that stretch across the center of Sinnoh. At the moment, there isn't much to do here without Strength.

Bronzor is a notable catch: a Steel/Psychic-type with many resistances and immunities to Poison-type and Normal-type, making it a strong defensive Pokémon. Meditite and Machop continue to appear as useful Fighting-types for challenges ahead. Cleffa is rare but can evolve into Clefairy through high friendship and then into Clefable using a Moon Stone.

With Route 211 and the northern Mt. Coronet entrance explored, return to Eterna City and head south on Cycling Road to continue the main story.
