Diana's Arcanine (Japanese: ダイアナ ウインディ Diana's Windie) is a Pokémon owned by Diana.
In animation
History
Pre-series
As revealed during a flashback in Reunion at the Ancient Castle!, Diana first owned Arcanine as a Growlithe when she was a kid. Growlithe was shown to have evolved into Arcanine by the time that Diana had grown into an adult. Arcanine was present with Diana when she was confronted by Hamber who was seeking the pendant that she had given to Liko.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series
In the present, Arcanine appeared in For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me! and The Door That Never Opens!, during a dream Liko had of Diana speaking to her.
Arcanine first psychically appeared in Reunion at the Ancient Castle! when it greeted Liko when she arrived at Old Castle alongside Friede and Liko. Later whilst sleeping, Arcanine sensed intruders around Old Castle and after investigating, alerted Diana. In the next episode, after Sango had her Glalie use Self-Destruct, Arcanine helped its Trainer to escape from the explosion.
In The Stolen Treasure, Diana confronted Tepen after he had stolen Roy's Ancient Poké Ball. Diana commanded Arcanine to attack with Flamethrower, only to be stopped by Liko.
In Lapras's Feelings for its Friends, Diana used Arcanine to break up the fight between the Rising Volt Tacklers' Pokémon and the group made up of some wild Pokémon linked to Lucius's Lapras.
In Roar of the Black Rayquaza, Diana used Arcanine in a battle against Liko and Roy, battling Sprigatito and Fuecoco. Despite putting up a strong fight against the First partner Pokémon, Arcanine was defeated when Fuecoco distracted it, allowing Sprigatito to defeat it with Scratch.
Following Diana's return to the Brave Olivine in The Three Explorers, Diana used it in her battle against Liko, going up against Floragato. After a tough battle, Arcanine was once again defeated after Liko Terastallized Floragato and hit Arcanine with Magical Leaf.
In Taking the Next Steps, Arcanine was used in a Double Battle against Liko, where it went up against Liko's Meowscarada and Charcadet alongside Wash Rotom. Despite Charcadet activating its Flash Fire Ability to negate its Fire-type moves, it was able to defeat both Meowscarada and Charcadet with a Flare Blitz and Extreme Speed respectively, thus making Diana the winner.
As revealed in a flashback in Mochi Mayhem!, Arcanine teamed up with Hamber's Dusknoir to battle a wild Pecharunt near Mossui Town, ultimately ending with Diana catching the Mythical Pokémon for herself.
In HZ133, Arcanine took its Trainer with Liko, Captain Pikachu, and Ann to the center of Laqua. In the next episode, Arcanine battle the wild Pokémon that were affected by Laquium. However, Arcanine got hurt when it defended Liko's Meowscarada and Hatterene from an attack by an Onix and Gliscor, so Diana returned it to its Poké Ball to rest.
Personality and characteristics
Despite its intimidating look, Arcanine is shown to be friendly towards Diana's friends and family, as seen in Reunion at the Ancient Castle! when it happily greeted her granddaughter Liko when she arrived at Old Castle. Arcanine doesn't hesitate to follow Diana's commands, as seen in The Stolen Treasure when she ordered Arcanine to use Flamethrower on Tepen, but stopped at Liko's request.
Arcanine is a very powerful Pokémon, having several decades of battling experience, being capable of single-handedly melting the ice that trapped Brave Olivine released by Lapras in Lapras's Feelings for its Friends and almost dominate the battle against Liko's Sprigatito and Roy's Fuecoco in Roar of the Black Rayquaza. Later in Taking the Next Steps, Arcanine was able to battle Liko's now-evolved Meowscarada and Charcadet pretty much single-handedly, while also withstanding quite a few attacks without any visible damage, showing its great resilience.
