The Chansey Chase (Japanese: ラッキーなサファリでおにごっこ！？ Playing Tag on a Lucky Safari!?) is the sixth episode of the second season of POKÉTOON and fourteenth overall. It was first released in Japan on the official Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel on October 23, 2024 (including English subtitles), and on the official English and Western Pokémon YouTube channels on July 30, 2026.
Blurb
Meg is spending the next week with her uncle, who lives in a house inside a lush Safari Zone filled with wild Pokémon. There, she encounters a mysterious Chansey wearing a hat. No one has been able to catch the Chansey, and even more strangely, her uncle seems to already know it somehow! Curious about the connection between Chansey and her uncle, Meg decides to set out and explore the Safari Zone on her own.
Plot
A young girl, Meg, arrives at a Safari Zone, and admires many of the wild Pokémon, including a Slakoth, Sudowoodo, Bonsly, and several Oddish. She comes across a notice board with a wanted posted of a large Chansey wearing a small fedora hat. She remembers she's meant to be heading to her uncle, the Safari Zone warden's place. As a Jumpluff floats by, Meg has a terrible sneezing fit. A huge Chansey appears, and, because of its hat, Meg recognizes it as the one on the poster. The warden appears with his trusty Maschiff in pursuit of the Chansey. In an attempt to reclaim his hat, the warden lunges at the Chansey, but the Chansey effortlessly evades him, and he falls flat on his face as the Chansey disappears into the tall grass. Meg thanks the warden, her uncle Bozley, for letting her stay with him. She asks him about the Chansey with the hat, but Bozley just mentions that it's a menace to the Safari Zone.
In the warden's cabin, Meg asks her uncle to let her accompany him on his rounds of the area, but he declines, stating it's too dangerous. Meg suggests that she'll explore the Safari Zone with Maschiff, but Bozley assures her Maschiff is loyal to him. After Bozley leaves, she finds a photo on his desk of her mother, Bozley, her grandfather (Bozley's father and the previous warden), when they were young alongside a large Chansey. Angry that her uncle left her alone, she decides to go explore by herself only to discover many of the zone's areas have been fenced-off. Near a lake, she finds a paralyzed Dratini. She wishes to help the afflicted Dratini but lacks the items to do so. The Chansey with a hat arrives and performs Heal Bell to alleviate the Dratini's condition. Various Trainers, including a Bug Catcher, Rich Boy, Nurse, Pokémon Ranger, and Hiker, try to catch the Chansey with Safari Balls, but it dodges all their Poke Balls and seems to disappear into thin air. After the Trainers leave, Meg finds the hat on the ground, and looking inside, she sees a shrunken Chansey inside, which grows in size and then vanishes. Meg wonders if that was one of Chansey's moves as a Skiploom glides over the water. In the evening, Bozley checks on three Natu and crosses paths with a Hoppip before discovering a Dodrio which was meant to be keeping watch is asleep.
At night, Meg enthusiastically recounts the Dratini she encountered, and how Chansey helped it. Bozley thinks it was just a coincidence that Chansey was there, but Meg objects to his dismissive insinuation. She asks why Bozley is angry at the Chansey, but he replies that a kid like her wouldn't understand. Meg then angrily calls Bozley childish as well, and he relents, telling her about the Chansey. The Chansey was Bozley's father's—Meg's grandfather's—partner Pokémon, and after Bozley took over the warden's duties, he received the old hat from his father, but the Chansey stole it and ran away. Bozley departs for his night rounds. As Meg lay around thinking about the Chansey, she notices a poisoned Fletchling and the Chansey with the hat arrives again to use Heal Bell on it once more. Meg thanks the Chansey and invites it in to escape the rain, but it instead disappears. When Bozley gets back from his rounds in the pouring rain, he finds the Chansey sitting at the bottom of the stairs to his cabin and asks why it still won't accept him as the warden, after all he has done to make the Safari Zone better. Bozley once again tries to grab the hat off the Chansey but slips in the mud and has his fall broken by the Chansey. Meg sees them and asks if they've made up, but Bozley angrily states that's not possible.
The next day, Meg is pleased to see the Fletchling has fully recovered and uses the opportunity to confide in it. Bozley gets a notification on his laptop of some Rhyhorn being worked up, and remarks that a lot of strange things have been happening to the Pokémon and that he needs to check it out. He had planned to seal off more areas of the zone, including the caverns, today, to which Meg tells him he's been closing off too many areas. Bozley replies that it's to keep Trainers from wandering into unsafe areas. When Meg wonders why the Rhyhorn are worked up, Bozley theorizes it might be due to the nearby Hoppip's Rage Powder. Just the mention of Hoppip makes Meg start sneezing again, revealing that it's caused by powder moves. When Bozley hears about the places where Meg was sneezing, he starts to realize something and invites Meg to go check something out with him.
After they arrive at a large tree in the forest, Bozley gives a still sneezing Meg a scarf to keep her from sneezing due to the powder moves. The large tree is covered by a lot of Hoppip, Jumpluff, and Skiploom. Bozley theorizes that blocking off some caves and tunnels changed the wind flow, which caused Pokémon that could no longer ride the wind to be stuck here. Poor ventilation led to their powders accumulating, which affected the other Pokémon. Bozley's Maschiff startles some Hoppip, and one retaliates with Stun Spore, but Chansey arrives and heals it.
Meg and Bozley open one of the boarded-up caverns, and the renewed wind current helps the Hoppip and other Pokémon disperse, floating gleefully in the wind. Meg helps her uncle realize that both Bozley and Chansey have been helping the Safari Zone together, with the Chansey having stolen his hat so he would follow it. Bozley apologizes to the Chansey and asks it to keep protecting the Safari Zone with him. The Chansey jumps into the air and disappears, and its hat floats down, which Bozley reclaims.
After a few days, with the Safari Zone having returned to normal, the Chansey's wanted poster has been removed from the notice board, and Meg, still with the scarf, is very tanned. Meg's mother, who has come to pick her up, remarks on how tanned Meg is, and they both leave after bidding Bozley farewell. In the car, Meg's mother remarks that her big brother (Bozley) has finally learned to loosen up and credits Meg with the transformation. Meg opens her bag and sees Chansey's face. While Meg is surprised, the Chansey starts to expand and fills up the space in the car.

Trivia
- The episode's Japanese title is a pun on Chansey's Japanese name, ラッキー Lucky.
- Bozley frequently uses common "figures of speech" which normally refer to real animals and flora, but replaces any real creatures with similar sounding Pokémon: "when Tepig flies" ("when pigs fly"); "rotten Appletun" ("rotten apple"); and "I'll be a Mankey's uncle" ("I'll be a monkey's uncle"). At the end, Meg imitates this speech pattern when describing Bozley's transformation: "turn over a new Leafeon" ("turn over a new leaf").
Errors
Dub edits
- The Western uploads add a "POKÉTOON: The Pokémon Cartoon Animation" logo segment at the beginning of the short.
- In the Western dubs, the ending theme is replaced by an instrumental track.
