Release information

Black & White Series

This card was included in the Emerging Powers expansion, first released in the Japanese White Collection. In Japan, it was reprinted in the Battle Strength Decks, the Battle Theme Deck: Victini, the Reshiram-EX and Zekrom-EX Battle Strength Decks, and the Battle Gift Set: Thundurus vs Tornadus. It was later included in the Dark Explorers expansion as an Ultra-Rare Secret card, first released in the Japanese Dark Rush expansion. The Emerging Powers print was subsequently reprinted in the Plasma Blast expansion. In Japan, this print was reprinted as part of the Master Deck Build Box EX, the Everyone's Exciting Battle collection, the Blastoise + Kyurem-EX Combo Deck, and the Mewtwo vs Genesect Deck Kit.

It was also planned to be awarded as a Mirror Holofoil BW-P Promotional card at Pokémon World Championships 2011 Japan Representative Tournaments, which were scheduled to be held in eleven cities across Japan beginning April 3, 2011. Due to the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, these events were canceled and the card was never released. At least one copy of this promotional card has been found, and it was rated 10 (pristine) by CGC.

XY Series

Pokémon Catcher was reprinted during the XY Series in the Kalos Starter Set, first released in the Japanese XY Beginning Set, with new artwork by 5ban Graphics and updated text to coincide with the XY Series errata. This artwork was later reprinted in the Japanese Xerneas and Yveltal Half Decks, the Hyper Metal Chain Deck, the Super Legend Set: Xerneas-EX & Yveltal-EX, the M Master Deck Build Box Power Style and M Master Deck Build Box Speed Style, the Golduck BREAK + Palkia-EX Combo Deck, as well as the English XY Trainer Kit. An unnumbered XY-P Promotional print of this artwork was one of five Trainer cards available in conjunction with the Pokémon Card Game Deck Building Seminar event held as part of the Pokémon Center Pokémon Card Game School. This was present at participating Pokémon Centers in Japan from October 25 to November 16, 2014 and was open to elementary school-aged children. A 20-card set comprising two copies each of five Trainer cards plus 10 Energy cards could be purchased at Pokémon Centers during the event for ¥100. It was reprinted again in the BREAKpoint expansion, first released in the Japanese Emboar-EX vs Togekiss-EX Deck Kit, and later in the Japanese BREAK Starter Pack, as well as the simultaneously released Japanese Zygarde-EX Perfect Battle Deck and M Audino-EX Mega Battle Decks. Another unnumbered XY-P Promotional print was 1 of 9 cards available in special packs sent to Japanese Event Organizers in July 2016 for distribution in official events hosted by them. This print features the Event Organizer logo in the bottom left corner of the illustration.

A Reverse Holofoil print is released as a Promotional card during the Delphox Season (June 2014) of Pokémon League events. This print features the Pokémon League logo.

Sun & Moon Series

A new print of Pokémon Catcher with artwork by Toyste Beach was available during the Sun & Moon Series, appearing in the Sun & Moon expansion, first released in the Japanese Sun & Moon Starter Set. It was reprinted again in the Japanese Tapu Bulu-GX Enhanced Starter Set and Ash vs Team Rocket Deck Kit. A SM-P Promotional print was 1 of 9 possible cards included in special packs sent to Japanese Event Organizers in August 2017 for distribution in official events hosted by them. This print features the Event Organizer logo in the bottom right corner of the illustration. It was reprinted in the English Shining Legends expansion and in the Japanese Shining Legends subset, Solgaleo-GX & Lunala-GX Legendary Starter Set, the Ultra Sun, Forbidden Light, and Sky-Splitting Charisma expansions, the Thunderclap Spark subset, in each of the GX Starter Decks, the Super-Burst Impact expansion, in both Trainer Battle Decks, and in the Sun & Moon Family Pokémon Card Game set.

Sword & Shield Series

Pokémon Catcher was reprinted again during the Sword & Shield Series as part of the Sword & Shield expansion, first released in each of the Japanese V Starter Sets. This print has new artwork by Ryo Ueda. In Japan, the Sword & Shield print was reprinted in the Sword & Shield Premium Trainer Box, in the Charizard & Grimmsnarl VMAX Starter Sets, in each of the V Starter Decks, in the Legendary Heartbeat subset, in a second version of the Charizard VMAX Starter Set from the VMAX Battle Triple Starter Set, in the Sword & Shield Family Pokémon Card Game set, in the Start Deck 100 (available in both Non Holofoil and Mirror Holofoil versions), and as a Mirror Holofoil in the Start Deck 100 CoroCoro Comic Version. Outside Asia, it was reprinted in the special Crown Zenith expansion.

Scarlet & Violet Series

During the Scarlet & Violet Series, Pokémon Catcher was reprinted in the Scarlet & Violet expansion with new artwork by Studio Bora Inc., first released in the Japanese ex Starter Set Sprigatito & Lucario ex and ex Starter Set Quaxly & Mimikyu ex. In Japan, it was reprinted in the ex Starter Set Pikachu ex & Pawmot, in the ex Start Decks, in the 2023 Pokémon World Championships Yokohama Deck: Pikachu, in the Pokémon Card Game Battle Academy Deck Kit, in the Crimson Haze subset, in the Generations Start Decks, in the Hot Wind Arena subset, and as an SV-P Promotional card. The promotional print was one of eight cards that could be found in Victini BWR Competition Promo Card Packs. One pack was given to people participating in Victini BWR Competition events, which were held at participating locations between June 14 and August 31, 2025. This print features the Victini BWR Competition logo.

Mega Evolution Series

During the Mega Evolution Series (the Japanese MEGA Series), the Scarlet & Violet print of Potion was reprinted in the Perfect Order expansion, first released simultaneously in the Japanese Start Deck 100 Battle Collection and Start Deck 100 Battle Collection CoroCiao Version. The Perfect Order print has a new "J" regulation mark, instead of the "G" regulation mark seen on the original Scarlet & Violet print.

Rulings

At the start of the XY Series, Pokémon Catcher was given an erratum that required a successful coin flip for the effect of the card to occur. In Pokémon TCG Online and Pokémon TCG Live, Black & White Series prints of this card are digitally altered to have this effect. The Plasma Blast print, which was the most recent at the time of the errata being issued, has "ERRATA APPLIED" written in red text at the top of the card.

Trivia

This card's Black & White Series effect matches that of Gust of Wind, a card previously released in the Base Set. This card's effect from the XY Series onward matches that of Pokémon Reversal.
