Dramatic Drapion & Crafty Kricketune II (Japanese: VS ドラピオンとコロトックII VS Drapion and Kricketune II), titled VS Drapion & Kricketune II in the Chuang Yi translation, is the 363rd chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga, and the 26th chapter of the Diamond & Pearl arc.
It is subtitled Lake and Shadow (Japanese: 湖と影 Lake and Shadows) in the VIZ Media translation and Lakes and Shadows in the Chuang Yi translation.
Plot
The Scientists send out a Drapion and a Kricketune to attack Diamond and Platinum. To block Kricketune's sharp blades, Diamond gives a large rock to his Munchlax to use as a shield. To Lax's shock, Kricketune cuts right through it. Diamond sends out Tru to use its shell to block Kricketune's attacks, but then Kricketune stops fighting and begins to press its arms together. Platinum attempts to warn Diamond that Kricketune can compose melodies with its arms, but it is too late. Using Sing, it puts Tru to sleep.
One of the Scientists sends Drapion after Lax, who can barely dodge its attacks. Realizing there's no chance of winning in close combat, Platinum decides to create some distance by sending out her Ponyta to pick up Diamond and Lax. Ponyta dashes away with the two on its back as Platinum runs alongside it.
The Scientists chase after the group, and Lax tosses Diamond's Berry supply at them to try to slow them down. It does little to help, as Drapion slices through them with ease. As it runs, Ponyta trips on a rock, falling and throwing off its riders. The Scientists have the group cornered, but right as they are about to attack, a bright light shines from the island in the middle of Lake Valor. The light blinds the Scientists, and Diamond takes the advantage by having Lax unleash a powerful Rollout attack. The Scientists are defeated, and Diamond and Platinum tie them together.
After the battle, Diamond and Platinum look into the water to spot Pearl and Dr. Footstep. The group catches each other up on where they have been, and Diamond tells the others about the bright light that saved them. Realizing Pearl was on the island, Diamond asks him if he knew where the light came from. Pearl freezes for a moment, then denies seeing the light.
After falling asleep from exhaustion caused from running to keep up with Ponyta, Platinum is horrified to wake up in a sleeping bag. She frets about being unable to spend the night at the Hotel Grand Lake like she planned, but then pauses when she sees the view of the lake. Platinum takes a moment to appreciate the nature around her, only stopping when her Pokédex beeps to signify that Diamond and Pearl are near. The two bring her soup that Diamond made, then inform her that Dr. Footstep left to take the Scientists to the police. Pearl reveals that before he left, he gave them a Footprint Ribbon to represent the group's closeness with their Pokémon. The group sets off to continue their journey, but Pearl pauses to stare back at the lake with an odd look on his face.
