Plot

Aboard the Brave Olivine, the Rising Volt Tacklers have fallen into a state of boredom and unmotivation. Their monotonous existence is broken, though, when Friede appears, taking a break from his work at Exceed, and invites the children for some fieldwork with him. However, ever since their adventure in Laqua ended, nothing seems to really faze or motivate the young Rising Volt Tacklers anymore, not even Friede's promise of taking them to see an amazing Pokémon, feeling they've seen plenty of amazing Pokémon already. Seeing how unmotivated the children are, Friede becomes all the more keen on the fieldwork trip and invites them along anyway, much to their confusion. Along the way, various wild Pokémon remind the children of their past adventures: a group of wild Rhyhorn and Rhydon reminds Dot of Zirc, Skeledirge being scared of Combee reminds Roy of the time when he and Fuecoco were attacked by a Vespiquen, and a group of Doduo running across their path reminds Ult of the time he and Sableye got into trouble with a bunch of Dodrio.

Eventually, they arrive at their destination, a lake, which Friede reveals to be the home of their fieldwork target: a Feebas. The Fish Pokémon's Pokédex entry leaves the children unimpressed, especially since they've already fought its evolved form, Milotic, at the Crystal Pool, making them feel this'll be an easy catch. Friede, though, seems to know better and encourages them to try and catch the supposedly easy-to-catch Pokémon. The children start fishing for Feebas, and after a while, the Fish Pokémon indeed makes its presence known. It keeps avoiding their fishing lines, though, and just when Dot seems to have gotten a bite and everyone helps her reel her catch in, it turns out to be a Slowbro instead, causing Feebas to mockingly laugh at them. Seeing that Feebas is tougher than they anticipated, the group decides to switch tactics and use their Pokémon to help catch it. However, even though Quaquaval manages to drive Feebas to the surface, it quickly escapes from Meowscarada and Quaquaval's attempts to seize it and splashes Skeledirge with water before he can use Torch Song. It continues to evade their attacks, splash water on them, and mock them with its laugh, completely mismatching its description on the Pokédex. Friede points out that every Pokémon is an individual and doesn't always match what the Pokédex tell about them. Experiencing a Pokémon that completely defies their expectations of its species, the group's motivation begins to reignite. They try to immobilize it with Skeledirge's Disarming Voice and Sableye's Confuse Ray, but it quickly breaks free from the immobilization and starts escaping up the river flowing into the lake. The children chase after it while Friede stays behind to prepare dinner, telling them to return by sunset.

As the children chase after Feebas, they notice it starting to do various poses, leading Dot to realize that it's actually wanting to play with them. They also notice that despite Feebas's rugged appearance, its scales look tough, proving that it has lived through a hard life. Feebas eventually runs into the group of Doduo the group saw before and jumps onto one's back, causing it to jump high and actually start running mid-air, surprising the young Rising Volt Tacklers. Feebas continues its escape by bouncing on land, until it's hit by a surprisingly mobile Kakuna and knocked into the water again. Just when Dot thinks they'll finally he able to catch Feebas off-guard, the group is caught off-guard themselves as a Rhydon Surfs past them, having apparently mimicked a Water Pokémon to move in a different element. The group continues to witness many unusual and exciting Pokémon during their chase, but by sunset, when they finally return to Friede, they're forced to admit that Feebas managed to slip away from them, despite several close calls. Friede reveals that no one has ever actually managed to catch this particular strong Feebas, something that he had, in his usual absent-mindedness, completely neglected to mention. The group sits down to eat beneath the starry night sky, reflecting on their day and how, despite failing you catch Feebas, they saw many interesting Pokémon and actually had a fun time for the first time in a while.

The next morning, Friede wakes everyone up early to witness a confrontation between Feebas and Captain Pikachu. Cap uses "Rising Volt Tackle" just as Feebas leaps out of the water and actually manages to grab it by the back fin. However, the light of the rising sun briefly blinds Cap, allowing Feebas to shake him off, but the two them still exchange looks of respect before Feebas swims away. Liko admits that after they completed their adventures in Laqua, she was left unsure of what to do next, but now, she knows she wants to keep on adventuring and facing new challenges with the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers, a sentiment that her friends share with her wholeheartedly, much to Friede's delight. Aboard the Brave Olivine, Mollie, Orla, and Murdock agree to start moving again as well and prepare for departure. While the team gathers to do the Rising Volt Tacklers hand sign, Liko and Roy notice the absence of Ludlow. Murdock reveals that he had some business to take care of, which, unbeknownst to rest of the team, is Ludlow continuing to pose as his superhero alter ego Mighty G, though he declares that he still remains with his comrades in spirit. Liko and Roy declare a reboot on the Rising Volt Tacklers, signaling a new beginning for the team. In the engine room, Orla briefly meets up with Friede, understanding that the whole fieldwork trip was just his way of getting the team fired up again. Friede simply smiles and flies off on Charizard as the Brave Olivine takes off towards new adventures for the rebooted Rising Volt Tacklers.
