Draft:Hoenn Badges

Ash Ketchum's Badges as seen in Less is Morrison

In Hoenn, the Hoenn League's eight Gyms give out Badges which can qualify Trainers for the right to challenge the Elite Four. In some media outside of the games, it has been shown that there are more than eight Badges and Gyms in Hoenn.

Hoenn's Battle Frontier also has Symbols that are equivalent to Badges, except that they do not have any effects.

Pokémon the Series

In the core series

The Hoenn Badges can be acquired in games based in Hoenn: Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.

Acquisition order

In the Generation III games, the Stone Badge must be acquired first and the Balance Badge must be acquired fifth, but the other Badges can be acquired in any order between or after those. In the Generation VI games, all Badges must be obtained sequentially—nothing can be skipped.

Stat boost

Some Badges boost a certain stat of the player's Pokémon. The stats are increased by 10%. This boost is not applied in link battles and it was removed in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

If the attack is a critical hit and the attacker's used offensive stat stage is less than or equal to the opponent's defensive stat stage, all Badge boosts are ignored.

Ash Ketchum's Badges as seen in Less is Morrison

In Pokémon the Series, the Hoenn Badges allow Trainers to participate in the Ever Grande Conference. Badges are earned by defeating Hoenn Gym Leaders, and gathering eight Badges is one way to earn a spot in the conference.

Alternative Badge givers

Mr. Moore is Flannery's grandfather and led the Lavaridge Gym within Brock's memory, but Brock is surprised to discover that Flannery is the Gym Leader when they visit in Poetry Commotion!. Mr. Moore is not seen giving out Badges.

Appearances

Ash Ketchum obtained all eight Hoenn Badges in Pokémon the Series.

While the Badges above are earned during Ash's original travels in Hoenn, he also earns a Badge while revisiting the region. In Reuniting for the First Time!, when Ash defeats Wallace in an impromptu battle, Wallace presents him with another Rain Badge and his scarf.

The Hoenn Gym Badges have been featured as official goods.

They also appear in other merchandise.

League Rewards

The Hoenn Badges were also part of the Pokémon League Rewards during the 2003-2004 and 2014-2015 cycles.
