Draft:Hoenn Badges

In Hoenn, the Hoenn League's eight Gyms give out Badges which can qualify Trainers for the right to challenge the Elite Four. In some media outside of the games, it has been shown that there are more than eight Badges and Gyms in Hoenn.
Hoenn's Battle Frontier also has Symbols that are equivalent to Badges, except that they do not have any effects.

In the core series
The Hoenn Badges can be acquired in games based in Hoenn: Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.
Acquisition order
In the Generation III games, the Stone Badge must be acquired first and the Balance Badge must be acquired fifth, but the other Badges can be acquired in any order between or after those. In the Generation VI games, all Badges must be obtained sequentially—nothing can be skipped.
| Badge | Order | |
|---|---|---|
| R S E | OR AS | |
| Stone Badge | 1 | 1 |
| Knuckle Badge | 2-4 | 2 |
| Dynamo Badge | 2-4 | 3 |
| Heat Badge | 2-4 | 4 |
| Balance Badge | 5 | 5 |
| Feather Badge | 6-8 | 6 |
| Mind Badge | 6-8 | 7 |
| Rain Badge | 6-8 | 8 |
Effects
Acquiring the Hoenn Badges can have the following effects:
- Increasing the maximum level for Pokémon obedience
- Boosting certain stats (in RSE)
- Allowing the use of HM moves as field moves
- Unlocking items in Poké Marts (in ORAS)
Obedience
Outsider Pokémon may disobey the player if their level is too high. The following table lists the maximum levels at which outsider Pokémon will obey the player, depending on the Badges they have.
| Obedience | R S E | OR AS |
|---|---|---|
| Up to Lv. 10 | No Badges | No Badges |

| Up to Lv. 60 | Balance Badge | |
| Up to Lv. 70 | Feather Badge | Feather Badge |
| Up to Lv. 80 | Mind Badge | |
| All Pokémon | Rain Badge | Rain Badge |
Stat boost
Some Badges boost a certain stat of the player's Pokémon. The stats are increased by 10%. This boost is not applied in link battles and it was removed in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
If the attack is a critical hit and the attacker's used offensive stat stage is less than or equal to the opponent's defensive stat stage, all Badge boosts are ignored.
| Stat | R S E |
|---|---|
| Attack | Stone Badge |
| Defense | Balance Badge |
| Special Attack and Special Defense | Mind Badge |
| Speed | Dynamo Badge |
HM moves
Some Badges allow the player to use HM moves as field moves, outside of battle. The following table shows which Badges are required to use an HM move outside of battle. Note that, in Generation VI, Flash is no longer an HM, but it can still be used outside of battle, without requiring a specific Badge.

Pokémon the Series

In Pokémon the Series, the Hoenn Badges allow Trainers to participate in the Ever Grande Conference. Badges are earned by defeating Hoenn Gym Leaders, and gathering eight Badges is one way to earn a spot in the conference.
Alternative Badge givers
Mr. Moore is Flannery's grandfather and led the Lavaridge Gym within Brock's memory, but Brock is surprised to discover that Flannery is the Gym Leader when they visit in Poetry Commotion!. Mr. Moore is not seen giving out Badges.
Appearances
Ash Ketchum obtained all eight Hoenn Badges in Pokémon the Series.
- Stone Badge: The Winner By a Nosepass!, won by defeating Roxanne.

- Dynamo Badge: Plugging Past Electrike I, given by Wattson for discovering an entrance to New Mauville; while Sapphire initially rejects it, she decides that she'll help them uncover the secrets of New Mauville in place of a Gym battle, and by the end of the adventure and the next chapter, she is seen riding away with the Dynamo Badge in her possession.
- Heat Badge: Mixing It Up with Magcargo, given by Flannery after an inconclusive battle, partly as thanks for cheering her up after she became depressed about being unable to protect her home town.
- Feather Badge: Master Class with Masquerain, earned while training with Winona, in recognition of the fierce strength Sapphire shows.
- Mind Badge: The Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon XV, given by Tate and Liza in recognition of her growth during her training on Mirage Island.

- Balance Badge: There's Someone More Important Than Clefairy?!, claimed by Clefairy after finding it in Slakoth's stomach; though Norman's Slakoth fainted, he demands the Badge be returned and chases them, with Clefairy throwing it back to Norman at the end.
Merchandise
The Hoenn Gym Badges have been featured as official goods.
They also appear in other merchandise.
League Rewards
The Hoenn Badges were also part of the Pokémon League Rewards during the 2003-2004 and 2014-2015 cycles. In the former case, they were small, oval lapel pins featuring the Pokémon League logo above an image of the Badge. In the latter case, they were small, embroidered patches depicting only the Badge.
