EP?

What does EP stand for?--KukiTalk 20:16, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Episode... --ケンジガール 20:20, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

I mean AG and DP stand for two different words so I was confused what EP could be--KukiTalk 20:23, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

What else could it have stood for?

----HoennMaster 06:25, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Encyclopaediae Pokémonis? TTEchidna 06:26, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
It actually stands for Episode. Some other t.v. series do that. But for the Pokemon series, they got bored of the EP after a while and changed it to AG(advanced generation) for their new generation (gen III). I'm 99% sure that's what it stands for. The other % is somewhere else far away from here...--Tavisource 06:41, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Well we're the ones who call it "EP"/"AG"/"DP". TTEchidna 07:42, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Fandom name?

Where does "Original Series" come from? I believe (though I'm not sure) it is a name given by the fandom or... at least it is how we call these "seasons" but, if it isn't like "official" it should be stated that Original Series it's not an official name and that we came up with it. Advanced Generation and Diamond and Pearl (well, the last one might be OK since it comes from the japanese name of the seasons) and I don't know about AG. But my point is: Where did we take that name? We just named it... just because? Out of the nowhere only because "we have the need to name it differently from the latter seasons"? YukitoOoO 20:40, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

It is the the original, it had the original cast, therefore it was the original series.--ForceFire 23:50, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
That's SO not the right answer... YukitoOoO 02:41, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Gallery

How come the other series have a gallery but this one doesn't? JacobtheDoduo (talk) 20:10, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Pokémon advanced ?

I don't understand why Pokémon advanced has been added to the dub seasons, could you explain please?--LeoKetchumB (talk) 19:52, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

The subtitles you see on screen don't always correspond with what the actual season is. The final 12 episodes of the Johto saga are given the Master Quest subtitle, but are technically part of Season 6. As you can see here. --HoennMaster 03:23, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
Still seems confused to me but thank you for the answer. Also, the sentence "the series was divided into five seasons" is no longer good since it lists six, right?--LeoKetchumB (talk) 19:03, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

The Beginning / Gold and Silver

So, in the English dub, this is actually two series, not one. Unlike the other 4 series, we don't have iTunes or DVD releases to strongly reinforce this, but we do have Pokémon.com and some press releases. Most of this information only came out very recently.

"Pokémon the Series: The Beginning" comprises the US DVD seasons Pokémon: Indigo League and Pokémon: Adventures in the Orange Islands ([1] [2]). This series is also mentioned in a few press releases about the German airing rights being obtained by Nickelodeon ([3] [4] [5]).

"Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver" comprises the US DVD seasons Pokémon: The Johto Journeys, Pokémon: Johto League Champions and Pokémon: Master Quest ([6] [7]*). --SnorlaxMonster 06:43, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

I'm in favor of this, also it's two series on Pokémon TV. --Raltseye prata med mej 10:46, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
I'm in favor of this as well, especially after the official Youtube channel has divided the series through openings. It is more accurate to divide in two, while also changing the episode codes as "TB" and "GS". (→ Rockapheller, talk to me 04:59, 7 February 2019 (UTC))
There will not be any change in episode codes. Those are based on the Japanese version, not the dub. --SnorlaxMonster 12:26, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Splitting

This is definetely TWO different series (3 in Japan) I'll agree for splitting the articles!--Michail2003 (talk) 18:20, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

And yes, prefixes should be something like TB and GS--Michail2003 (talk) 18:22, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

Move to Pocket Monsters (1997)

I'm only presenting this as a possibility in case we need consistency after possibly renaming the "new series" article to "Pocket Monsters (2019)". The discussion for said rename is on its talk page. --Gabo 2oo (talk) 16:45, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

Disagree. We must follow a quote due to the format of the Advanced Generation, Diamond & Pearl, Best Wishes, XY, and Sun & Moon series titles. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 01:51, 13 December 2019 (UTC)

Pokémon the Series: The Beginning

Unlike other series, TPCI call the original series Pokémon the Series: The beginning. However other series are called on the games of their generation. So why hasn't they called it Pokémon the Series: Red and Blue. DarkDan 13:33, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Because that's just how it is. You'll have to contact them and ask them. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 22:35, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Title

The other series had its title changed. Why hasn't Original Series been changed to Pokémon the Series: The beginning and Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver DarkDan 01:10, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

I'm not sure. Perhaps the admins agreed those two should belong under one series rather than be split off into two? GrammarFreak01 (talk) 01:36, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
There was no consensus to split or move the page among the staff at the time. --Abcboy (talk) 21:39, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
The key distinction between the original series and other series is that it's a single series in the Japanese version, but two series in the dub. While it would be possible to stick both dub titles together and call that the article's title, that's really not ideal. --SnorlaxMonster 10:23, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
