The Japanese Sun & Moon Era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game began in November 2016 with the release of the Pikachu's New Friends blister pack, starting off a wide array of TCG merchandise centered around Pokémon Sun and Moon and the Alola region. This collection includes a substantial amount of decks, blister packs, boxes, and many more items utilized to distribute various promotional cards among other promotional materials to commemorate the seventh generation of the franchise. Below is a chronological list of all the items released during the Japanese Sun & Moon Era of the Trading Card Game.
Pikachu's New Friends Collection

The Pikachu's New Friends Collection (Japanese: ピカチュウと新しい仲間たち Pikachu's New Friends) is the first piece of merchandise released for the Japanese Sun & Moon Era. It introduces the Alola region starter Pokémon, Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio, alongside Pikachu, as Holofoil cards. It was released on November 18, 2016, together with the release of the Pokémon Sun and Moon video games.

Togedemaru Special Set
The Togedemaru Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット「トゲデマル」) was one of three blister packs made available on December 9, 2016, released alongside the Collection Sun and Collection Moon expansions. This blister pack was available for purchase at 7-Eleven, Ito-Yokado, York Benimaru, and at Pokémon Centers. It features the Roly-Poly Pokémon Togedemaru, and the blister pack comes with one Collection Sun booster pack and one Collection Moon booster pack.

Pikachu SM1 Special Set
The Pikachu Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット「ピカチュウ」) was the second blister packs made available on December 9, 2016. Released in Circle K Sunkus, Daily Yamazaki, FamilyMart, Ministop, Lawson, and at Pokémon Centers, this blister pack features the Mouse Pokémon, Pikachu, and also comes with one Collection Sun booster pack and one Collection Moon booster pack.

Yungoos Special Set
The last of the three blister pack made available on December 9, 2016, was the Yungoos Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット「ヤングース」), sold exclusively in Tsutaya, and at Pokémon Centers. Featuring the Loitering Pokémon Yungoos, this blister pack, however, comes with two Collection Sun booster packs and two Collection Moon booster packs.

Premium Trainer Box
Released alongside the three blister packs was the Premium Trainer Box (Japanese: プレミアムトレーナーボックス), released on December 9, 2016. Similar to the international Elite Trainer Box line of products, this box includes a card box, a custom coin, a GX marker, acrylic damage counters, Special Condition markers, 64 card sleeves, a player's guide, a stock of Basic Energy cards, a set of Trainer and Special Energy cards from both the XY BREAK and Sun & Moon Era, ten Collection Sun booster packs and ten Collection Moon booster packs.

Decidueye-GX Starter Set Grass
The first of three Sun & Moon Starter Set released on December 9, 2016 was the Decidueye-GX Starter Set Grass (Japanese: スターターセット草 ジュナイパーGX) which features the final evolution of the Grass-type starter Pokémon, Decidueye, which appear as a Pokémon-GX. It also includes a rulebook, a player's guide, a new Pokémon-GX marker, damage and status counters, a custom coin, and a playmat.
Incineroar-GX Starter Set Fire
Focusing on the final evolution of the Fire-type starter Pokémon, Incineroar as a Pokémon-GX, the second of three Sun & Moon Starter Set released on December 9, 2016 was the Incineroar-GX Starter Set Fire (Japanese: スターターセット炎 ガオガエンGX). The set also comes with a rulebook, a player's guide, a Pokémon-GX marker, damage and status counters, a custom coin, and a playmat.
Primarina-GX Starter Set Water
The Primarina-GX Starter Set Water (Japanese: スターターセット水 アシレーヌGX) was the last of three Sun & Moon Starter Set released on December 9, 2016. Featuring the final evolution of the Water-type starter Pokémon, Primarina as a Pokémon-GX. Similar to its two counterparts, this set comes with a rulebook, a player's guide, a Pokémon-GX marker, damage and status counters, a custom coin, and a playmat.

Available exclusively at Toys "R" Us in Japan on December 9, 2016, was the Sun & Moon Toys "R" Us Limited GX Starter Set (Japanese: トイザらス限定 GXスターターセット), which includes all three of the Sun & Moon Starter Set. This deluxe version features the final starter evolutions of the Alola region: Decidueye, Incineroar, and Primarina. It also comes with a Pikachu and a Mimikyu promotional cards.

Pretend Grunt Pikachu Special Box
The Pretend Grunt Pikachu Special Box (Japanese: スペシャルBOX 団員ごっこピカチュウ) was released on December 17, 2016, featuring the different villainous teams of the Core series video games. Each box comes packaged with 2 Pikachu promotional cards (1 Holofoil and 1 exclusive Full Art card), a set of 64 card sleeves, a deck case, a card box for storage, three Collection Sun booster packs, and three Collection Moon booster packs.

Decidueye Special Set
The Decidueye Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット 「ジュナイパー」) was one of five blister packs made available alongside the Strength Expansion Pack Sun & Moon subset on January 27, 2017. Each set comes with a Decidueye promotional card, two Strength Expansion Pack Sun & Moon booster packs, one Collection Sun booster pack, and one Collection Moon booster pack.

Incineroar Special Set
The second of five blister pack released on January 27, 2017 was the Incineroar Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット「ガオガエン」). Focusing on Incineroar as a promotional card, it also comes with two Strength Expansion Pack Sun & Moon booster packs, one Collection Sun booster pack, and one Collection Moon booster pack.

Primarina Special Set
The Primarina Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット 「アシレーヌ」) was the third of five blister pack released on January 27, 2017. Similar to the previous two special set, it comes with a Primarina promotional card, two Strength Expansion Pack Sun & Moon booster packs, one Collection Sun booster pack, and one Collection Moon booster pack.

Rockruff Special Set
The Rockruff Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット 「イワンコ」), also released on January 27, 2017, however, was exclusive to Pokémon Centers and store chains owned by Seven & I Holdings Co., such as 7-Eleven and Ito-Yokado. This set contains the Puppy Pokémon, Rockruff as a promotional card, and two booster packs from the Strength Expansion Pack Sun & Moon subset.

Turtonator Special Set
Rounding off the five blister packs released on January 27, 2017 was the Turtonator Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット「バクガメス」), sold exclusively at Circle K Sunkus, Daily Yamazaki, FamilyMart, Ministop, Lawson, and at Pokémon Centers. It also comes with a Turtonator promotional card, and two booster packs from the Strength Expansion Pack Sun & Moon subset.

Alolan Vulpix & Vulpix Poncho-wearing Pikachu Special Box
Continuing the trend of the popular Poncho-wearing Pikachu merchandise in the past, the Alolan Vulpix & Vulpix Poncho-wearing Pikachu Special Box (Japanese: スペシャルBOX アローラロコン&ロコンポンチョのピカチュウ) was released on February 1, 2017. The box comes with 2 promotional cards, featuring Pikachu wearing the Alolan Vulpix and Vulpix Ponchos, a set of 64 card sleeves, a deck case, a card box for storage, one Collection Sun booster pack, and one Collection Moon booster pack.

Komala Special Set
The Komala Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット「ネッコアラ」) was one of three blister packs made available on March 17, 2017, released alongside the Islands Await You and Alolan Moonlight expansions. Sold at 7-Eleven, Circle K Sunkus, Daily Yamazaki, FamilyMart, Ministop, Lawson, and at Pokémon Centers, this blister pack comes with a Komala promotional card, one Islands Await You booster pack, and one Alolan Moonlight booster pack.

Pikachu SM2 Special Set
The second of three blister packs released on March 17, 2017 was the Pikachu Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット「ピカチュウ」), available at Yamada Denki and the Pokémon Centers. Featuring another Pikachu promotional card, this blister pack includes two Islands Await You booster packs, and two Alolan Moonlight booster packs.

Jangmo-o Special Set
The Jangmo-o Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット「ジャラコ」) was the last item released on March 17, 2017, sold at Tsutaya and Pokémon Centers. Featuring the Scaly Pokémon, Jangmo-o, this blister pack contains two Islands Await You booster packs, and two Alolan Moonlight booster packs.

Tapu Bulu-GX Enhanced Starter Set

The Tapu Bulu-GX Enhanced Starter Set (Japanese: スターターセット改造「カプ・ブルルGX」) was released alongside the Islands Await You and Alolan Moonlight expansions on March 17, 2017. The deck features the Land Spirit Pokémon Tapu Bulu as a new Pokémon-GX card, and several

Alolan Vulpix Special Set
Released shortly after the Facing a New Trial expansion on April 21, 2017 was the Alolan Vulpix Special Set (Japanese: スペシャルセット 「アローラロコン」). This blister pack features the Alolan variant of the Fox Pokémon, Vulpix, and contains two Facing a New Trial booster packs.
