Release information
Original Series and Legendary Collection Series
This card was released as a Trainer card in the Base Set with artwork by Keiji Kinebuchi, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack. Before the TCG was officially released in North America, prototype Pokémon Leagues were given the Trainer Deck A, which included this card. The cards in this deck all have a red border and "Trainer Deck A" printed on the back. In Japan, it was reprinted in the Nivi City, Hanada City and Guren Town Gym Decks. It was also included in the Red and Green Decks of the Japanese Quick Starter Gift Set as well as the Bulbasaur and Squirtle Decks of the Japanese Intro Pack. Both of these prints featured reworded effect text to the original. Outside Japan, it was reprinted in Base Set 2 and the Legendary Collection retaining its original effect text. Potion was also featured in the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon Trading Card Game 2: The Invasion of Team GR! for Game Boy Color.
Neo Series
Although no reprints were made during the Neo Series, the Japanese Neo Era saw the release of the Intro Pack Neo, which included reprints of Potion in its Chikorita and Totodile Half Decks. This print featured more amended effect text wording.
VS Era
In Japan, this card was reprinted in the Tyranitar Half Deck followed by a release in the Pokémon VS expansion. This print was also included in a slightly altered version of the Tyranitar Half Deck, which was distributed to players at the 2001 Tropical Mega Battle and was available in several languages. The Japanese and German prints featured slightly reworded effect text.

It was also included in the Black & White Trainer Kit. It was reprinted in the Boundaries Crossed expansion, first released in the Japanese National Beginning Set. It was reprinted again in the Japanese Everyone's Exciting Battle collection.
XY Series
Potion was reprinted again during the XY Series in the Kalos Starter Set with new artwork by 5ban Graphics, first released in the Japanese XY Beginning Set. It was reprinted in the Japanese Xerneas Half Deck. It was reprinted in both Half Decks of several Deck Kits, namely the XY Trainer Kit, XY Trainer Kit: Bisharp & Wigglytuff, XY Trainer Kit: Latias & Latios, the Japanese Emboar-EX vs Togekiss-EX Deck Kit (which led to a reprint in the BREAKpoint expansion), and the XY Trainer Kit: Pikachu Libre & Suicune. In Japan, it was reprinted again in the BREAK Starter Pack. An unnumbered XY-P Promotional print was 1 of 9 cards available in special packs sent to Event Organizers in Japan starting July 2016, which were then distributed to participants of subsequent official events held by them. This print features the Event Organizer logo in the bottom right corner of the illustration. It was reprinted as a retro card in the Evolutions expansion, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary subset, featuring the same artwork as the original print and an updated card template reminiscent of the Original Series layout.
Sun & Moon Series
During the Sun & Moon Series, Potion was reprinted as part of the Sun & Moon expansion with new artwork by Toyste Beach, first released in the Japanese Sun & Moon Starter Set. This print was reprinted in the Alolan Raichu Half Deck of the Sun & Moon Trainer Kit: Lycanroc & Alolan Raichu, released April 21, 2017. In Japan, it was later reprinted as part of the Ash Half Deck in the Ash vs Team Rocket Deck Kit, in the Ultra Sun expansion, in four of the nine GX Starter Decks, and in the Sun & Moon Family Pokémon Card Game set. The Sun & Moon Trainer Kit: Alolan Sandslash & Alolan Ninetales included a variant of the Sun & Moon print. It has a 15 in a blue circle at the bottom right of the card, so the deck can be ordered for a practice duel. The Sun & Moon print of Potion had five variants within the Battle Academy deck kit. The cards within the three decks (Charizard, Pikachu, and Mewtwo) had a silhouette of the Pokémon in the bottom right of the card, with the Charizard and Pikachu Deck cards also having numbers so they could be ordered for a practice duel. One copy was part of the Mewtwo Deck, while the other two decks had two copies each. The numbers on the Charizard Deck copies are 14 and 37; the numbers on the Pikachu Deck copies are 20 and 40.
Sword & Shield Series
Potion was reprinted during the Sword & Shield Series with new artwork by Ryo Ueda, appearing in the Sword & Shield expansion, first released in the Japanese V Starter Set Grass. In Japan, it was reprinted as a S-P Promotional card with the collection number 017/S-P and was available in the Grookey, Scorbunny & Sobble Card Box, released on December 6, 2019. Another S-P Promotional print, this time with the collection number 051/S-P, was one of nine possible cards included in special packs sent to Event Organizers in April 2020 for distribution in official events hosted by them. This print features the Event Organizer logo in the bottom right corner of the illustration. The Sword & Shield print was reprinted again in Japan in two of the nine V Starter Decks, in the Venusaur VMAX Starter Set, in the Sword & Shield Family Pokémon Card Game set, in the Start Deck 100 (available in both Non Holofoil and Mirror Holofoil versions), and as a Mirror Holofoil in the Start Deck 100 CoroCoro Comic Version. Outside Asia, it was reprinted in the special Champion's Path and Crown Zenith expansions.
Scarlet & Violet Series
During the Scarlet & Violet Series, Potion was reprinted in the Scarlet & Violet expansion with new artwork by Ayaka Yoshida, first released in the Japanese ex Starter Set Sprigatito & Lucario ex. It was reprinted in the Japanese ex Start Decks and the Pokémon Card Game Battle Academy Deck Kit.
Unnumbered prints were included in the My First Battle Deck Kits, stamped on the bottom-right with silhouettes of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle that correspond to each mini deck. These prints lack a regulation mark and have a different card back, making them illegal for tournament play.
