Trivia
Origin
It is possible the inspiration for Grumpig came from the proverb "do not cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under your feet." The pearls were supposed to represent wisdom given to an audience who wouldn't appreciate the teachings. Grumpig and Spoink appear to instead use those pearls of wisdom to enhance their mental powers.
Name origin
Grumpig's name is likely just a combination of grump and pig. Boopig is probably derived from ぶうぶう būbū, grumbling, or 豚 buta, pig, and the English word pig. It's German name is probably a combination of grumbling and oink, the sound pigs make.
