Buneary (Japanese: ミミロル Mimirol) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves into Lopunny via Happiness.

Biology

Physiology

Buneary are small furry mammalian Pokémon with long ears with pink ear insides. They have two types of fur covering their bodies: a light tan fleece that covers much of their lower body, feet and the tips of their ears, and a smooth chocolate colored pelt on the upper half of their body. Buneary has a small, triangular pink nose, pink paw pads on the undersides of their feet and small tan spots above their eyes. Buneary has a small brown puff of a tail, and most artwork depicts Buneary’s right ear standing erect while the left is flopped over.

Trivia

  • Buneary is, to date, the only Pokémon to learn the move Frustration by leveling up. Ironically, it evolves through happiness.
    • Its evolution learns Return at the same level, and is also the only one to learn it by leveling up.
  • Buneary is the only Pokémon able to learn Attract through breeding.
  • Buneary is popular as a breeding Pokémon because it can be used to breed certain Ground Group Pokémon with ThunderPunch, Fire Punch, and Ice Punch, which are normally used by Pokémon in the Humanshape Egg Group.
  • Buneary is the only Pokémon introduced in the same generation as its evolution that evolves by happiness and can breed (Togepi and Riolu, while introduced in the same generation as their evolutions, act as baby Pokémon).

Origin

Buneary is based on a rabbit.

Name origin

Its English name is a combination of bunny and ear. Its Japanese name is a combination of 耳 mimi, ear, and roll, referring to its rolled up ears.

In other languages

  • German: Haspiror - From Hase (hare) and Ohr (ear).
  • French: Laporeille - From lapin (rabbit) and oreille (ear).
  • Korean: 이어롤 Earroll - From English ear and roll.
  • Chinese: 捲耳兔 Zuan Er Tu - "grasp ear rabbit"
