Nidorina (Japanese: ニドリーナ Nidorina) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Nidoran♀ starting at level 16, and evolves into Nidoqueen via Template:Stone.
Biology
Physiology
Nidorina is comparatively larger than its pre-evolution, though she loses the forehead horn. Nidorina's poison spikes are larger and probably more potent; she has also gained the ability to stand on her hind legs.
Gender differences
Nidorina is the female equivalent of Nidorino. This is shown even in its name, which ends in a as opposed to o in Nidorino. A is traditionally a feminine vowel in the English language, particularly at the ends of names.
Nidorina seems to be more docile and and relaxed than her counterpart Nidorino.
Special abilities
Nidorina's abilities are stronger than Nidoran♀'s, but are otherwise the same.
Behavior
Nidorina is a gentle Pokémon like its pre-evolution, Nidoran♀. It is a caring mother, chewing food for its young. Although it would rather not attack at all, it prefers attacks like clawing and biting. It seems to display close family bonds with others of its own kind, and becomes nervous when separated. However, when angered, a Nidorina can become a formidable foe.
Habitat
Nidorina live in expansive hot savannas and plains.
Diet
Main article: Pokémon food
In the anime
Emily's Nidoran♀, nicknamed Maria evolved into Nidorina after battling Team Rocket and kissing Ralph's Nidoran♂, nicknamed Tony, in Wherefore Art Thou, Pokémon?
Whitney has a Nidorina. It was easily defeated by Ash's Cyndaquil in their Gym Battle.
In the manga
Blue had a Nidoran♀ in Pokémon Special that evolved into a Nidorina. It later evolved into a Nidoqueen.

Trivia
- Despite being a gendered species, Nidorina and its evolution Nidoqueen are unable to breed. Strangely, their male counterparts Nidorino and Nidoking can, but only with Ditto.
Origin
Nidorina appears to be based on a rabbit or mouse.
Name origin
Nidorina's name may be based on the word needle and rhinoceros. It may also be based on cnidocyte, a type of venomous cell responsible for the stings delivered by stinging animals, most notably, by jellyfish. Alternatively, it may be based on 二 ni, two, or 二度 nido, two times/two degrees, referring to there being two distinct evolutionary lines using the name with similar names and traits. The rina in its name most likely alludes to its female gender- in many languages, such as Spanish, names and words ending in a are said to be feminine.
