Grimer (Japanese: ベトベター Betbeter) is a Poison-type Pokémon.

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Gold
As it moves, it loses bits of its body from which new Grimer emerge. This worsens the stench around it.
Pokémon Ruby
Grimer's sludgy and rubbery body can be forced through any opening, however small it may be. This Pokémon enters sewer pipes to drink filthy wastewater.
Pokémon Emerald
Born from polluted sludge in the sea, Grimer's favorite food is anything filthy. They feed on wastewater pumped out from factories.
Pokémon FireRed
Sludge exposed to X rays from the moon transformed into Grimer. It loves feeding on filthy things.
Pokémon LeafGreen
Appears in filthy areas. It thrives by sucking up polluted sludge that is pumped out of factories.

Name origin

Grimer's name seems to be a corruption of grime, dirt. Its Japanese name may be derived from べとべと betobeto and べたべた betabeta, both meaning sticky. The German name, Sliema, sounds like Slimer; a slimey ghost from "Ghostbusters".

It appears to be a pile of living sludge.

In the anime

Ash and co. first encountered this flith-ridding Pokémon in EP030. They were gumming up the turbines in the powerplant in Gringy City. Grimer and Muk chased Ash, Misty and Brock after a negative comment on how they smelled was made. Magnemite and Magneton chased them off, leaving Ash to capture the Muk.
