The ninth generation (Japanese: 第九世代 ninth generation) of Pokémon games is the ninth installment of the Pokémon video game series. The ninth generation will begin with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on November 18, 2022.

Generation IX was first revealed via a Pokémon Presents video presentation on February 27, 2022, which revealed Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Advances in gameplay

  • Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are open-world games in which areas are seamlessly connected. The areas in the game can be visited in any order.[1]
  • Pokémon Scarlet and Violet feature multiplayer with up to four players simultaneously, enabling trading and battling between players as well as allowing them to travel through the game's areas together.[1]
  • A new battle mechanic, Terastalization, which encases the Pokémon in gems and enhances or alter their attribute through their innate Tera Type.

Starter Pokémon

The starters of the ninth generation, like the starters of the previous eight regions, follow the Grass-Fire-Water trio, with the Grass-type Sprigatito, the Fire-type Fuecoco, and the Water-type Quaxly.
