The TMTRAINER effect is the common name for a series of glitchy effects occuring most commonly with repeated use or selection of the "cooltrainer" move.

Effects

There are many strings of events that can occur but the one by far most common, which this glitch was named after. Note that simply hilighting the move that will cause this effect will cause it, even if the player leaves the fight menu.

The most common always follows this pattern:

  • Opponent acquires burn status.
  • Music fades and glitch sound plays, similar to Rhydon's cry.
  • When an move or item is used, the text will be displyed: "Enemy [glitch text taking a whole line] TMTRAINER DITTO is frozen solid!" (Note that DITTO is only used if it is a Ditto that you have in battle).
  • Then similarly, the text will be displayed: "Enemy [glitch text taking a whole line] TMTRAINER DITTO is hurt by the burn!"
  • Enemy Pokémon's health bar will wrap across the screen several times, and slowly deplete, heal, deplete, heal until after several minutes finally reaching zero.
  • If the player is against a trainer, the opponents will send out the Pokémon that was in battle before the glitch activated, and upon the battle finishing, the game will freeze. If a wild Pokémon was being battled, the game will simply freeze similarly.

Note that catching the enemy Pokémon during this glitch will cause the game to display "Wild MISSINGNO. was caught!", followed by a game freeze.

Trivia

  • Even though the game freezes after catching a Pokémon affected by this glitch, the hall of fame will still become glitched, but with the same glitch Pokémon on every page.
