Route 201 (Japanese: 201ばんどうろ Route 201) is a route in southwestern Sinnoh, connecting Twinleaf Town and Sandgem Town. The route also provides access to Lake Verity. It is the first route in Sinnoh.

Route description

Route 201 primarily connects Lake Verity and Sandgem Town, but the route is also accessible from Twinleaf Town from the south. The westernmost portion of this route is considered Verity Lakefront. This stretches from the gap of trees just west of Twinleaf Town all the way to Lake Verity.

Upon leaving Twinleaf Town, as the player does in the games, a short path north will lead to a T-junction. A long ledge lies ahead which can only be accessed from the east. At this point, turning west will carry on to Verity Lakefront and subsequently to Lake Verity, whereas turning east will head in the general direction of Sandgem Town. Going east, the path temporarily gives way to a long patch of tall grass, before continuing again on the other side, towards another junction. Following the path north here will double back west towards the long ledge. Beside the junction is a sign with a Trainer tip. Keeping straight, the path will pass larger patches of grass on both sides until it reaches a bend north. Unfortunately, a ledge prevents further access from the south, but provides a handy shortcut for those coming from Sandgem. To reach the other side, a detour through the grass to the west is forced to be taken, before returning to the path, which turns and remains east until it reaches the town. There are no Trainers to battle on this route.

On the player's first visit in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the player's rival will follow, and prevent the player from heading east towards Sandgem Town. In Platinum, Professor Rowan gives the player and his/her rival their Starter Pokémon on the T-junction near Twinleaf Town. This is also the site of the first battle between the player and rival.
