During the planning and development stages of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, several things were originally going to be a part of the games. Some of them were dropped or changed, but several of these dropped concepts of the beta version can still be found within the game's programming.
Prototype sprites
Before the game was released, there are pictures from CoroCoro Magazine that showed Silver's, Pikachu's and Pichu's beta sprites. These were changed later on. There is also a beta back sprite of Gold. His hair is slightly different and there is a symbol on his hat.
There is also a beta screenshot of the Slowpoke Well without Lance's sprite, which instead shows a Team Rocket grunt standing where Lance is in the final version.

Prototype items
- The Photo Album was going to be a key item, but the feature was included in the PC instead.
