Psywave (Japanese: サイコウェーブ Psychowave) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.
Effect
Psywave inflicts a random amount of damage, varying between 0.5× and 1.5× the user's level. The damage can be calculated using the following formula, where X
is a randomly generated number between 0 and 10:
(X + 5) × (User's level / 10)
The damage is always rounded down; however, Psywave will always deal at least 1 HP of damage.
In Generation I, the game will freeze if a level 1 Pokémon uses the move, though this error was fixed in later generations.
Strangely though, if it is used it will not be super effective. For example if it is used on a poison type, the damage will be neutral as if it were a normal type move.
