Effect

Generation III

In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, when the Dive Ball is used from the Bag in a wild encounter, it will attempt to capture the wild Pokémon with a catch rate modifier of 3.5× if used while underwater. Otherwise, its catch rate is 1×.

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, Dive Ball's effect is altered to be effecive on Pokémon encountered while surfing or fishing.

Generation IV onwards

From Generation IV onwards, the Dive Ball retains its effect from FireRed and LeafGreen. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire only, the Dive Ball's original purpose is restored, but still is effective while surfing or fishing.
