Sun (Japanese: サン Sun) is the male player character in Pokémon Sun and Moon. His female counterpart is Moon.

In the games

Sun is a boy who recently moved from the Kanto region to Melemele Island in the Alola region. Early in his adventure, Sun meets the guardian deity of Melemele Island, Tapu Koko, and quickly befriends Lillie, her Cosmog, Nebby, and Hau. After receiving a Starter Pokémon and Z-Ring from Melemele's Island Kahuna, Hala, Sun begins his island challenge in earnest.

Counterparts

In the anime

No direct counterpart to Sun has appeared in the Pokémon anime. However, Sun's default attire is very similar to Ash Ketchum's in the Sun & Moon series. And like Sun, Ash originates from Kanto and owns a Rotom Pokédex.

Trivia

  • Pre-release media, including the Special Demo Version of Sun and Moon, referred to Sun as "Sun" (Japanese: サン Sun, Korean: Sun). The name "Elio" (Japanese: ヨウ , Korean: 영태 Yeongtae) has also been used.
  • Unused internal data refers to Sun as (Japanese: カイ Kai), Hawaiian for ocean.
