Staraptor first appeared in Following a Maiden Voyage. Piplup unintentionally hit Staraptor with Bubblebeam (Piplup was aiming to hit Chimchar) and caused a Whirlwind that wrecked Professor Rowan's lab.

- Mukuhawk's name is derived from 椋鳥 mukudori (gray starling) and the English word hawk.
