The S.S. Tidal (Japanese: タイドリップごう S.S. Tiderip) is a ferry from the Hoenn region, featured in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Its captain is Mr. Briney.
The S.S. Tidal transports players from one location to another. Its main voyage takes players from Lilycove City to Slateport City, and vice versa, but, by having a range of tickets, other locations can also be reached. The tickets required are game-dependent, and only one can be obtained in-game: the S.S. Ticket, which leads to a special area after the Elite Four has been defeated. The rest must be obtained in a Nintendo event, but all give access to an island where a legendary Pokémon awaits capture.
Like Johto's S.S. Aqua, there are many Trainers on board the ship that may be battled on the journey—but only once. Each of these can be found in their own cabin. The player also has his or her own cabin. By sleeping in the bed in this room, the ship will arrive at its destination.
Geography
Hall
The hall is the main part of the S.S. Tidal. When the player first enters, they start off near the entrance staircase, on the far south-western corner of the ship. There are cabins in the middle of the hall—eight rooms in total, one of which is the player's room. By sleeping in the bed in this room, the ship will arrive at its destination. On the north-eastern corner of the ship, there is a staircase down to the basement. There are portholes located on the northern side of the ship, which the player can look out them and see their current location, whether they are traveling against the currents of Route 133, or traveling over the seas to the Battle Tower. Mr. Briney and Peeko are also located on the northern hall, where they will welcome the player to his very own ship.
Cabins
In total, there are eight cabins. Within these cabins await passengers of the ship that are eager to battle. However, some rooms contain passengers that do not want to battle, and will sometimes give away advice. In one room there is a strange man standing next to a bin (Perhaps being sea sick, similar to another case). He will give away TM49 (Snatch). The player also has his or her own cabin. By sleeping in the bed in this room, the ship will arrive at its destination.
Basement
On the north-eastern corner of the ship, there is a staircase down to the basement of the S.S. Tidal. Down in the basement are several of the ships crewmen taking a break, or training with their Pokémon. The basement contains giant cargo containers, that are located around the room. The two sailors are roaming around the room, ready for a battle. There are also Leftovers, hidden in one of the three trash cans located around the room.
