Misty's Azurill (Japanese: カスミのルリリ Kasumi's Ruriri) is a Pokémon which was acquired by Misty shortly before Ash entered the Battle Frontier in the Pokémon anime. Its English voice actress is Kayzie Rogers and its Japanese voice actress is Megumi Hayashibara.

It is the child of Tracey's Marill, though it is unknown which Pokémon was the other parent.

Azurill and its parent

Azurill has only been seen briefly, during the episodes between The Scheme Team and A Real Cleffa-Hanger. In the first episode, it was only seen at the very end where it was shown that Misty carries it in her arms in the same way as she carried her Togepi.

In the next episode, it battled Team Rocket along with other Marill. It interacts very well with other Pokémon, most notably a wild Cleffa. It is able to use a unique move, Refresh, which Azurill can only learn as an egg move.

Trivia

  • Theories on Azurill's other parent come up from time to time. Since it is unknown what the anime's rules on breeding are compared to the games, which use egg groups, it is truly unknown what the other Pokémon was. However, if the egg groups are followed, the other parent could only be either a Marill or Azumarill that already knew Refresh, or even Misty's Corsola, as Corsola is the only Pokémon in the same egg group as Marill that learns Refresh by level up. Due to Ash's Pikachu knowing Volt Tackle, however, it could be that the anime's writers merely wanted to show off a new move.
  • Azurill was seen using more moves than its parent, Marill.
  • Azurill is the first baby Pokémon that is a pre-evolution of a Pokémon released in an earlier generation to be hatched from an egg in the anime— all prior eggs hatched are Pokémon that evolve into Pokémon released in the same or later generations, while the other baby Pokémon like Munchlax, Mime Jr. and Bonsly, were caught from the wild rather than hatched by their trainers. The only other Pokémon to share this trait is Brock's Happiny.
  • Azurill is Misty's second Generation III Pokémon. Caserin was her first, because Marill's egg was not mentioned in Caserin's capture episode.
  • Misty's Azurill and Brock's Happiny are the only Pokémon hatched from eggs officially owned by a main character that have yet to evolve.
