It shares physical similarities with a {{wp|goaltender|hockey goalie}}'s mask, as well as with a form of traditional Japanese {{wp|mochi}}. It may also be based on a cold, distant facial expression or person.
Similar to Jynx, Glalie is based on human features, most likely on a cold, distant person or facial expression. thus the face pokemon. It also looks somewhat similar to an ice hokey mask.

Glalie's name is likely a combination of ''{{wp|glacier}}'' and ''goalie''. Its Japanese name is a combination of 鬼 ''{{wp|oni}}'', demon, and 氷 ''kōri'', ice. It also maybe a combination of ''oni'' and ''goalie''. Its name could also be a pun on お握り ''{{wp|onigiri}}'', rice ball, to which it has a slight resemblance.

Glalie (Japanese: オニゴーリ Onigohri) is an Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Snorunt at level 42.

Biology

Physiology

Glalie resembles a human-like face with pointy ears and cold, blue eyes.

Gender differences

Glalie has none, but is said to be technically the male evolution of Snorunt, because of its appearance and the introduction of Froslass. However, there can still be female Glalie.

Special abilities

Glalie's abilities are similar to those of its pre-evolution, only stronger. In fact, Glalie's icy powers are now strong enough to wield Sheer Cold. Other new moves include Dark Pulse, Earthquake, Gyro Ball and Explosion. Since Glalie is a fully evolved Pokémon, it can learn Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Behavior

Glalie tends to be mischievous. They can block paths in order to trap travelers that dwell into mountain tops or caves. Despite its physical disposition, Glalie are very loyal Pokémon. They are often misjudged by their unfriendly appearance.

Habitat

Glalie live in deep cold caves and sometimes high atop mountain caps hidden within dark crooks of mountains. They have also been found to sleep withing large Ice fissures created by moving glaciers.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Glalie is a predatory Pokémon. It captures its prey by literally freezing them in their tracks.

In the anime

Ash's Snorunt evolved into this Face Pokémon in Rhapsody in Drew. Ash's Glalie only stayed during Hoenn League. It is now at Professor Oak's lab.

Trivia

  • Despite being described as having a body made of rock it is not of the Template:Type2 (although it is in the Mineral Egg Group).
  • Glalie is one of only four pure Template:Type2 Pokémon, along with Snorunt, Regice, and Glaceon.
  • Although Glalie can float in the air in the anime, it does not have the ability to Levitate in the games.
  • Glalie bears a resemblance to a rice ball; its Japanese name sounds similar to the word "onigiri", Japanese for "rice ball". In all actuality, Glalie could be described as an "ice ball", which has one letter off from "rice ball".
  • While Glalie's design includes many features typical for Template:Type2s, and its movepool includes many Dark-type moves, such as Payback or Crunch, it is not a Dark-type Pokémon itself.

Origin

Similar to Jynx, Glalie is based on human features, most likely on a cold, distant person or facial expression. thus the face pokemon. It also looks somewhat similar to an ice hokey mask.

Name origin

Glalie's name is likely a combination of glacier and goalie. Its Japanese name is a combination of 鬼 oni, demon, and 氷 kōri, ice. It also maybe a combination of oni and goalie.
