Entering the Pokémon Center, Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu found out that there wasn't anyone in it until a Chansey and Nurse Joy says that Nurse Joy is doing her Pokémon examination. Ash and Misty were confused of what she says until Brock approach her and confirms that this Nurse Joy is an imposter. Praising him that he have seen through her disguise, Chansey and Nurse Joy turns out to be Duplica and her Duplica. Duplica is here because she was invited to perform in the Pokémon Acting Competition and was waiting for her new Ditto named Mini-Dit since it's now doing its operation. Team Rocket from afar recognized Duplica and her Ditto and plans to steal it.

After the operation, while Pikachu, Misty, Ditto and Mini-Dit are playing together outside, Brock wonders why Mini-Dit was under operation. Duplica shows Mini-Dit's transformation of Pikachu and Togepi in which it Transforms perfectly, but when it transform into Brock's Onix, it transforms into a mini size form. Team Rocket was also amazed by Mini-Dit's transformation and set their eyes on stealing it. Duplica has no idea what's wrong with Mini-Dit's transformation. Despite Misty's complement about Duplica catching the weirdest Pokémon ever, Ash challenges her Mini-Dit into a Pokémon battle.

Ash decides to use his Totodile while Duplica uses her Mini-Dit. Mini-Dit transforms into Ash's Totodile and does Scary Face, however, instead of being scared, Ash's Totodile laughs instead. Totodile uses Water Gun and hits Mini-Dit. Duplica tells Mini-Dit to use Hydro Pump but nothing happens. It seems that Totodile hasn't learned that move yet. Brock remembers that even though Ditto can copies the Pokémon moves perfectly, if that Pokémon that it copies doesn’t learn that move yet, it can't uses it. Suddenly, there is an explosion in the Pokémon Center and the gang see Jessie and James, disguised as Duplica and Ash, on top of the roof. While Team Rocket tells the gang of their plans to steal every Pokémon in the center, MTR sneaks behind them and steals Mini-Dit. As Team Rocket enters the center, the gang decides to stop them only to find that Mini-Dit is gone. The gang also realized that Team Rocket was actually after Mini-Dit since none of the Pokémon inside center was stolen.
Plot
Ash and ashfr arrive at a Pokémon Center, only to find nobody there. Just then, a Nurse Joy and an unusual-looking Nurse Joy appear. She tells them that she was doing a Pokémon examination. Brock, however, is suspicious and calls Nurse Joy an impostor. She congratulates him on seeing through the disguise, and reveals themselves to be Duplica and her Duplica. Duplica explains that she is participating in a Pokémon acting competition, and will enter with her new Ditto, Mini-Dit. Meanwhile, TRT, spying on the Trainers from afar, recognize Duplica. They begin formulating their plan to snatch her Ditto and are thrilled to see Mini-Dit's unusual defect where it can only Transform into small versions of large Pokémon like Brock's Onix.

Team Rocket praises themselves that their plan works. Instead of keeping Mini-Dit, they decide to follow Meowth's plan. Meowth tells them that they try to sell a mini Arbok and sooner or later, they might manage to trade it for a rare Pokémon like Dragonite. In addition, they would steal back Mini-Dit after the trade and repeat this method over and over again. Meanwhile, the gang find no luck in finding Mini-Dit or Team Rocket. Not even Noctowl and Ditto, who transforms into Noctowl can find them. Just then, Nurse Joy comes out and tells them that a trainer says that a suspicious looking characters came selling a mini Arbok. Team Rocket, who is making an auction of trading the mini Arbok were attracted by Pokémon trainers when the gang came to check it out. Thanks to Meowth's sudden appearance and greedy about trading a rare Pokémon, they reveal themselves while Mini-Dit was saved.
Misty accidentally insults Duplica and her unusual assortment of Ditto with problems, but Ash challenges her to a battle to boost her confidence. Ash sends Totodile up against Mini-Dit. It successfully Transforms into the Water type and uses Scary Face. However, it ends up entertaining Totodile, who starts laughing at the move. It then uses Water Gun and hits Mini-Dit. Unfazed, Duplica commands Mini-Dit to use Hydro Pump. Unfortunately, Totodile doesn't know that move, so nothing eventuates. She knocks Totodile to the ground with a Tackle before telling Ash that he needs to teach his Pokémon more attacks. Out of nowhere, an explosion occurs in the Pokémon Center. Looking up, they see Jessie and James in the guise of Duplica and Ash on the Center's roof. While explaining their goal of stealing all the Center's Pokémon, MTR sneaks up and grabs Mini-Dit. The trio takes off into the Center when suddenly Duplica realizes that Mini-Dit is gone. After inspecting the Pokémon Center, they discover that Team Rocket's only goal was to steal Mini-Dit, as all the other Pokémon are safe.

Team Rocket decides to battle out with them so Jessie summons out her Jessie, however, Jessie appears. Duplica too decides to battle them using her two Ditto in which her Ditto transform into Arbok while Mini-Dit transform into Wobbuffet. Ditto makes it first move but was knock back from a Counter attack from Jessie's Wobuffet. Mini-Dit also uses a Counter attack from Arbok's Poison Sting attack. Meowth tells James while they're battling, they can steal the Pikachu from them so James calls out his James but luckily, Duplica notice it and ask her Ditto to do a Wrap attack on Weezing. Thanks to that, now it's a three on three battles as Ash uses his Pikachu on battle. Pikachu uses a Thunderbolt but was countered by Wobbuffet's Counter attack. Just then Duplica taunts Team Rocket that they're afraid of attacking her Mini-Dit as it's ten times stronger then theirs. So Arbok does a Tackle attack to Mini-Dit but Arbok was knocked out by Mini-Dit's Counter attack but when Weezing does a Sludge attack onto it, Mini-Dit does a Mirror Coat, which knocked out both Weezing and James making Jessie wondering about that attack. Duplica explained that Wobbuffet has two attacks that is Counter attack that counters physical attacks and Mirror Coat that counters special attacks. Team Rocket understands and while James praises Wobbuffet for learning that move, Jessie isn't too happy about it as she doesn't want to lose to Mini-Dit. Meowth uses its Fury Swipes but Mini-Dit uses a Counter attack and scratches itself. Getting ready for the final attack, Pikachu , followed by Ditto and Mini-Dit which transform into Pikachu, does a Thunder attacks. Out of Jessie's confusion about Wobbuffet's next attack, they were hit and were sending blasting off again.
After their escape, Team Rocket celebrates their successful capture. But before long, they're formulating their next scheme; Meowth decides to have Mini-Dit transform into a mini Jessie. He believes they'll trick somebody into trading them a rare Pokémon like Dragonite. They also decide to steal Mini-Dit back and repeat the scheme over and over again. While they plot, Ash and the others are having no luck in finding Mini-Dit or Team Rocket. Even Noctowl and Ditto transformed into Noctowl perform an aerial search, but their efforts are in vain. Just then, Nurse Joy appears and tells them a Trainer told her about some suspicious-looking characters trying to sell a Mini-Arbok. When Ash and the others check it out, they find the trio trying to auction off Mini-Dit. Thanks to Meowth's appearance, the gang realizes the auctioneers are the Rocket trio. Ash has Pikachu use Thunderbolt on Team Rocket, and Mini-Dit is returned to Duplica.

Back at the Pokémon Center, Duplica puts up a show by turning Mini-Dit into one of the trainer's Ursaring, which turns into a mini version of Ursaring. The gang tells Duplica that even though that Mini-Dit doesn't grow bigger, it still the same Pokémon only a bit special. Duplica decides to become the greatest performer by naming her team "Team Ditto". Ash tells her she can be a Ditto Master but Duplica reminds Ash that they still haven't finished their battle and the gang went outside to resume the battle.
Not wanting to lose Mini-Dit, Jessie sends out Arbok in an attempt to regain it. However, Jessie appears as well. Jessie prepares to recall Wobbuffet, but Meowth reminds her that Wobbuffet’s Counter might be useful. Jessie goes up against Duplica and her two Ditto in a Double Battle. Ditto becomes Arbok, while Mini-Dit becomes a miniature Wobbuffet. Ditto attacks, but Jessie's Wobbuffet uses Counter. Likewise, Jessie's Arbok's Poison Sting is countered by Mini-Dit. While the battle rages, Meowth and James decide to steal Pikachu. James sends out James, but Duplica notices and has Ditto use Wrap. Ash has Pikachu use Thunderbolt, which is countered by Wobbuffet. Having an idea, Duplica mocks Team Rocket for not attacking her stronger Mini-Dit. Jessie commands Arbok to Tackle it, but it is countered by Mini-Dit. James has Weezing use Sludge, but Mini-Dit counters with Mirror Coat. Duplica explains to the trio that Mirror Coat is a move that counters special attacks. Now angrier than ever, Jessie commands Meowth to use Fury Swipes, but it is once again countered by Mini-Dit. Then both Ditto transforms into Pikachu and joins Ash's Pikachu for a triple dose of Thunder. As the attack approaches, Jessie scrambles to think which attack to use, but the thunder attack hits and Team Rocket are sent blasting off again.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket is hanging somewhere around the tree while Jessie is still upset of her Wobuffet and losing to a mini pokémon.
Back at the Pokémon Center, Duplica puts on a show, where she has Mini-Dit transform into a miniature Ursaring. The gang tells Duplica that even though Mini-Dit doesn't grow bigger, it's still the same Pokémon only a bit special. Duplica tells Ash and the others that she plans to become the greatest performer, and names herself and her Pokémon Team Ditto. After Ash comments that Duplica can become a Ditto master, she reminds him that they never finished their battle. They both head outside to continue their match. Elsewhere, Team Rocket is stuck in a tree. Jessie criticizes Wobbuffet for being dense and losing to Mini-Dit.

Trivia
Trivia
* This is the first time Mirror Coat is used by any Pokémon (Mini-Dit transformed into Wobbuffet). However, because Jessie doesn't know which move is used to counter certain types of attacks (Jessie doesn't even know about Mirror Coat until Duplica tells her), she relies on Wobbuffet to counter the attack by telling it to decide independently. Up to this point, Wobbuffet had been using the correct move to match to the situation, even though Jessie always only ordered Wobbuffet to use Counter.
* In this episode, Duplica enters in a Double Battle with Jessie, using her Ditto and Mini-Dit against Jessie's Jessie and Jessie.
*The Japanese title is a reference to the opening song Aim to Be a Pokémon Master.
** Later, Ash and James join the battle, making it the second unofficial Triple Battle in the series.
* This episode marks the first time in the anime that a Trainer commands a Pokémon to use Mirror Coat.
** However, Jessie's Wobbuffet has always used the appropriate counter for a given situation, even though she only ever commanded it to use Counter.
* The Japanese title is a reference to the opening song Aim to Be a Pokémon Master.
* This is the first of two episodes in which James disguised himself as Ash; the second time was in Heroes - Friends and Faux Alike!.
* In this episode, Mini-Dit uses Scary Face after transforming into Ash's Totodile, meaning that Totodile knows the move. However, Totodile itself isn't seen using the move until much later in One Trick Phony!.
* The Gentleman that appears in MTR's fantasy looks very similar to the one who traded with Ash in Battle Aboard the St. Anne, with the only differences being that this Gentleman wears a monocle and has a slightly longer mustache.

Errors
Errors
* When James' Weezing used Sludge, Mini-Dit used Mirror Coat and was able to reflect it. This is incorrect as Sludge is a Poison move (which relies on a Pokémon's Attack prior to Generation IV). The correct counter would be Counter since Counter is used against physical attacks and Mirror Coat is used against special attacks. In Generation IV and beyond, however, since Sludge is itself a special attack, Mirror Coat would reflect it.

* In the original Japanese version, Jessie erroneously calls Wobbuffet "Sohnano" at the end of the episode.
* Misty's ponytail disappears in one scene.
* At the beginning of the battle between Ash and Duplica, Ash's sleeves are colored blue instead of white.
* When Ash tells Totodile to use Bite, his gloves turn completely dark-green.
* At the beginning of TRT's motto and shortly after, James appears to be floating in midair.
* At one point during Team Rocket's motto and when James says that they came to steal Pokémon, one of the gloves on James's disguise is missing.
* When James's Weezing uses Sludge, Mini-Dit uses Mirror Coat and is able to reflect it. This is incorrect, as Sludge is a Poison move (which relies on a Pokémon's Attack prior to Generation IV). The correct counter would be Counter since Counter is used against physical attacks and Mirror Coat is used against special attacks. In Generation IV and beyond, however, since Sludge is itself a special attack, Mirror Coat would reflect it.
* After MTR jumps on both Jessie and James's heads, the former's glasses disappear for a short while.
* When Mini-Dit transforms into Totodile, it uses Tackle, a move Totodile cannot learn in the games. The same occurs with Duplica's other Ditto and Jessie.
* When Pikachu joins the fight against Team Rocket, he passes through Mini-Dit.
* When Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, Counter prevented it from doing damage. However, it should have been Mirror Coat instead of Counter.
* Brock's animation freezes after Duplica says that she wants to be a Ditto master.
* In one scene, Ash's Noctowl and Duplica's Ditto as a Noctowl are at an abnormally large size.
* In the dub, when Jessie and James are attempting to trade Mini-Dit (transformed into a miniature Arbok), Jessie refers to it as "Arbok the Rock Pokémon, now in pebble size." This is incorrect, as Arbok is actually a Poison-type Pokémon.

* The original airing of this episode on Hungama TV in India started it directly from the title card, skipping the part of the episode that comes before it.

After their escape, Team Rocket celebrates their successful capture. But before long, they're formulating their next scheme; Meowth decides to have Mini-Dit transform into a mini Arbok.

Not wanting to lose Mini-Dit, Jessie sends out Arbok in an attempt to regain it. However, Wobbuffet appears as well. James sends out Weezing, but Duplica notices and has Ditto use Wrap.

Trivia

Errors

Misty's missing ponytail
 • In the original Japanese version, Jessie erroneously calls Wobbuffet "Sohnano" at the end of the episode.
 • Misty's ponytail disappears in one scene.
 • At the beginning of the battle between Ash and Duplica, Ash's sleeves are colored blue instead of white.
 • When Ash tells Totodile to use Bite, his gloves turn completely dark-green.
 • At the beginning of Team Rocket's motto and shortly after, James appears to be floating in midair.
 • At one point during Team Rocket's motto and when James says that they came to steal Pokémon, one of the gloves on James's disguise is missing.
 • When James's Weezing uses Sludge, Mini-Dit uses Mirror Coat and is able to reflect it. This is incorrect, as Sludge is a Poison-type move (which relies on a Pokémon's Attack prior to Generation IV). The correct counter would be Counter since Counter is used against physical attacks and Mirror Coat is used against special attacks. In Generation IV and beyond, however, since Sludge is itself a special attack, Mirror Coat would reflect it.
 • After Meowth jumps on both Jessie and James's heads, the former's glasses disappear for a short while.
 • When Mini-Dit transforms into Totodile, it uses Tackle, a move Totodile cannot learn in the games. The same occurs with Duplica's other Ditto and Arbok.
 • When Pikachu joins the fight against Team Rocket, he passes through Mini-Dit.
 • When Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, Counter prevented it from doing damage. However, it should have been Mirror Coat instead of Counter.
 • Brock's animation freezes after Duplica says that she wants to be a Ditto master.
 • In one scene, Ash's Noctowl and Duplica's Ditto as a Noctowl are at an abnormally large size.
 • In the dub, when Jessie and James are attempting to trade Mini-Dit (transformed into a miniature Arbok), Jessie refers to it as "Arbok the Rock Pokémon, now in pebble size." This is incorrect, as Arbok is actually a Poison-type Pokémon.

Dub edits

 • The original airing of this episode on Hungama TV in India started it directly from the title card, skipping the part of the episode that comes before it.
