The travels of {{Ash}}, {{an|Misty}}, and {{an|Brock}} have brought them to [[Scissor Street]]. Ash wonders why they're here, but Misty then remembers that Scissor Street is also called "{{pkmn|Breeder}}'s Lane." Brock seems to be looking for a particular store.


Brock explains that there are a lot of breeding salons and beauty parlors on this street, all just for [[Pokémon]]. Misty suddenly runs ahead and looks at a big poster sporting the latest fashion, featuring an overdressed {{TP|James|Koffing}} and {{TP|Jessie|Ekans}}. There's also a pink scripted [[Team Rocket|R]] on the poster.

When they find the advertised Salon, someone who sounds awfully familiar is announcing the place as "Salon Roquet." For some reason, this name sounds very familiar to Ash and Misty. Brock looks again at the posing Ekans and Koffing and wonders if it's a Pokémon or a Christmas Tree.
==Plot==
{{Ash}} and {{ashfr}} find themselves on [[Scissor Street]], also referred to as {{tc|Pokémon Breeder|Breeder}}'s Lane. {{an|Brock}} explains that it is well known for its high-end {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} salons and beauty parlors. {{an|Misty}} pauses outside of one venue in particular to examine a poster featuring a {{p|Koffing}} and {{p|Ekans}} adorned with a number of gaudy accessories. Inside the salon, named Salon Roquet, {{TRT}} enacts their latest moneymaking scheme, running a bustling beauty parlor. They give a woman's {{p|Raichu}} and {{p|Dodrio}} a makeover, much to the displeasure of both Pokémon. Misty considers getting in line, but is interrupted by Brock who announces that he has found the store he is looking for. Ash and Misty follow him a short distance to a less crowded storefront, whereupon Brock is suddenly struck by a fit of apparent nervousness and freezes. Oblivious, Ash and Misty enter first and are greeted by a feminine voice that snaps Brock back to reality.


Inside, the stylists of Salon Roquet, ([[Jessie]] and [[James]]), are hard at work putting the latest fashions on a {{p|Raichu}} and a {{p|Dodrio}}. They seem to be a bit too enthusiastic about their work. When they complete their fashion makeover, they present the Pokémon to its trainer, who adores the new look. The Pokémon, however, are less than impressed.
Inside, they meet a Pokémon Breeder named [[Suzie]], after she finishes gently massaging a {{p|Chansey}} for a customer. However, Misty quickly shifts her attention to a {{p|Vulpix}} that is fast asleep on a chair. Ash scans it with his [[Pokédex]] while Misty approaches the sleeping Pokémon. Misty, enthralled by the cute Vulpix, picks it up while offering numerous compliments. However, Vulpix, annoyed by the interruption of its nap, fires a {{m|Flamethrower}} at Misty's face before falling back asleep. Brock, who has been unusually silent up to this point, suddenly blurts out that he wants to become Suzie's pupil. Everyone is shocked, especially Suzie, who explains she does not have time for students due to her busy workload. After Ash asks, Brock explains that Suzie is a highly accomplished and popular Pokémon Breeder. Misty asks about Vulpix, but Ash cuts Brock off before he can go into detail about how terrific a model the Pokémon is.  


While the stylists see the customer off, {{MTR}} is busy counting the money. He then starts complaining that they're spending too much money on advertising. Jessie corrects him, informing him that the more they hype the place up, the more customers they'll get. And those are customers that would pay thousands for the perfect Pokémon makeover. This sends Meowth practically drooling.
Later, Suzie serves tea for the three while {{AP|Pikachu}} happily munches on some food. Suzie compliments Pikachu's shiny coat, and asks if Brock makes his {{pkmn|food}}. Brock replies that he does, and Misty explains that it is Brock's own recipe. Suzie explains that she too got into [[Pokémon breeding]] because of her interest in Pokémon nutrition. During this exchange, Vulpix suddenly joins Pikachu in eating his food. This surprises Suzie, who explains that Vulpix usually does not eat anything she has not made herself.  


Back outside, Misty's debating if she should get in line, when Brock suddenly interrupts, saying he found the store he was looking for. He leads the others over to the store, which isn't nearly as flashy as any of the other places. Even so, Brock almost can't bring himself to open the door. Thus, Ash and Misty do it for him.
Misty decides to ask Suzie about all the flashily dressed Pokémon they saw outside. Suzie points out that ever since Salon Roquet opened up, {{pkmn|Trainer}}s have been focusing on making their Pokémon look as flashy as possible, though Suzie laments that this clashes with her goal of bringing out the inner strengths and personality of Pokémon. Ash agrees, explaining that he feels showing off is a waste of time. However, Misty counters that even Pokémon like to dress up once in a while. This leads to an argument between Ash and Misty about what is more important for a Pokémon and its Trainer. Ash jokingly suggests that, if fashion is so important to Misty, she should take her {{TP|Misty|Psyduck}} over to Salon Roquet. Misty loves the idea and calls out Psyduck, much to Ash's amusement.


When they enter, they see a female Pokémon Breeder giving a {{p|Chansey}} a massage. She finishes up just as the customer returns for the Chansey. When [[Suzy]], the breeder, asks if they need help, Ash says they're just browsing around, until Brock interrupts with a red face.
After Misty heads out, Suzie expresses doubt in her own methods, but Brock and Ash quickly reassure her. Brock suggests a way in which Suzie can compete with the growing popularity of salons like Salon Roquet. Soon after, Suzie explains that if a Pokémon has been injured in a battle, it should be given a therapeutic massage, which she demonstrates on Pikachu. As Brock had hoped, Suzie's lecture starts to draw the crowd away from Salon Roquet. As Suzie, Ash, and Brock demonstrate the importance of good communication between Pokémon and Trainer, Trainers arriving from Salon Roquet begin to doubt if they made the right choice.


But then Misty herself interrupts, seeing a {{TP|Brock|Vulpix}} napping on a chair. Ash and Misty make their way over, Ash using his [[Pokédex]] on the Vulpix. Misty continually compliments it, then picks it up, only to get a {{m|Flamethrower}} in the face. Dexter belatedly adds that Vulpix uses powerful flame attacks, to which Ash responds with a "Duh!"
Meanwhile, at Salon Roquet, [[Jessie]] orders {{MTR}} to send in the next customer, though they are shocked to see it is Misty with her Psyduck. Team Rocket drag her in for a makeover of her own, with her protests that Psyduck was the one who needed the makeover falling on deaf ears. Despite this, she loves the bright and flashy results, and asks the undercover Jessie and [[James]] to continue. Annoyed at the attention being given to Misty, Meowth mentions Pikachu and that they should interrogate her until she tells them where he is, tipping Misty off to his identity. Jessie and James begin attacking Meowth, chastising him for blowing their cover, as they had already intended to do what he had suggested prior to his outburst. Meowth scratches them, revealing their true identities. Misty screams that she will never tell Team Rocket anything, but James grabs her and threatens to paint her face like {{wp|Frankenstein}} if she does not. Thinking that over for a moment, she suddenly realizes that Psyduck has gone missing. In fact, Psyduck has run back to Suzie's salon, where it tells Pikachu that Misty is in trouble. Pikachu signals that Misty is in danger, and takes off, with Brock, Ash, and Suzie following close behind.


Suzy apologizes and explains that Vulpix doesn't like to be touched or hugged by strangers, to which Misty can only reply "I wish I knew that sooner." Brock suddenly manages to speak up, stumbling his way through a greeting. His stumbling becomes worse, until he finally manages to blurt out that he wants to become Suzy's pupil. Everyone is shocked, Suzy foremost. Ash doesn't understand why, but Brock is quickly on top of it.
They make their way back to Salon Roquet, where they face off against Team Rocket in order to save Misty, who they have tied to a chair. They are startled and amused to see what Team Rocket has done to Misty's face, but Team Rocket defends the bizarre makeover, claiming they are conducting important beauty research. This starts an argument between Suzie and Team Rocket about whether beauty is on the inside or the outside. Meowth, however, interrupts by revealing Team Rocket's fraudulent intentions. Team Rocket offers a trade: Misty for Pikachu. Ash refuses and challenges them to a {{pkmn|battle}}. However, James pushes a button on a microphone which summons their latest invention, the Salon Roquet Battling Platform.


Brock, getting a microphone from somewhere, begins a recital about her achievements, fame, and other things. Misty asks if Vulpix has ever won any awards. Brock quickly breaks into another tirade about Vulpix, but is soon cut off by Ash, who exclaims "We get the idea!"
Jessie sends out {{TP|Jessie|Ekans}}, and James sends out {{TP|James|Koffing}}, both of which are still dressed in their ridiculous outfits. Ash sends out Pikachu, and Brock uses {{TP|Brock|Geodude}}. Brock orders a {{m|Seismic Toss}}, and Geodude carries Ekans into the air and flings it down. However, Ekans turns the momentum of the throw into a spinning wheel strike and slams into Pikachu. Ash calls for a {{m|Thunder Shock}}, but the spinning of Koffing and Ekans makes their extravagant outfits deflect the lightning. James orders {{m|Sludge}}, blinding both Pikachu and Geodude. But as Team Rocket's Pokémon are sent in to finish them off, Ekans and Koffing end up tripping over their outfits, halting the attack. Meowth tries to help the tangled Pokémon, but Vulpix cuts in. Suzie makes her stand and exclaims that if people only focus on their Pokémon's outer beauty, its inner strength will be lost. Vulpix's powerful {{m|Fire Spin}} drives the message home and sends Team Rocket blasting off. Brock takes the opportunity to explain to the crowd that Vulpix is a prime example that a cute exterior hides inner strength. The crowd, taking the words to heart, begin to remove all the flashy items from their Pokémon and wipe off the applied makeup. Misty, who was accidentally charred by the Fire Spin, is furious at Psyduck for not helping her, unaware of the part that it had already played in her being found, and demands that the {{t|Water}} type untie her.


Later, Suzy serves tea for the three, and Pikachu is happily munching food. Suzy compliments Pikachu on his shiny coat, and asks if that food is Brock's. Brock says it is, and Misty explains that it's Brock's own recipe too. Suzy explains that she too got into Pokémon breeding because of her interest in Pokémon nutrition.
Back at her salon, Suzie thanks Ash and his friends for helping her regain confidence in her beliefs. She plans to leave the salon for a while and go on a journey to learn what it truly means to be a Pokémon Breeder, and proclaims she is still a student and now Brock's rival. Suzie says that Brock is the first person other than herself that Vulpix has shown affection to, and asks that Brock take care of {{TP|Brock|Vulpix}} for her while she is on her journey. Brock gratefully accepts, and transfers the small {{pkmn|category|Fox Pokémon}} to its new {{i|Poké Ball|Ball}}. Meanwhile, Ash looks at Misty's made-up face again and cracks up laughing, angering her.


Vulpix suddenly leaps up to the bowl of food, sniffing at it curiously. Pikachu offers Vulpix the piece it was eating, and Vulpix eats it. As everyone watches, Vulpix proves to enjoy it. This surprises Suzy, as Vulpix usually doesn't eat anything Suzy herself hasn't made. Ash guesses that Vulpix is a fan of Brock's cooking too. All Brock can say is "Thank you, Vulpix," and bows, only to smack his head on the table.
Soon enough, Ash and his friends are on their way once again and wave goodbye to Suzie. Meanwhile, Team Rocket runs past, pursued by a crowd of their angry former customers.


Misty then brings up all the flashily dressed Pokémon they've seen en route. Suzy points out that ever since Salon Roquet opened up, everything has been about making Pokémon look as flashy as possible. Ash thinks that's dumb, but Misty points out that even Pokémon like to dress up once in a while. She then goes on to imagine what Pikachu would look like in fashion.

Misty claims that they're so cute that they'll look good no matter what fashion they're in, to which Ash slyly replies, "I'm sure Psyduck will." After shouting at Ash for a bit, Misty realizes that this may be tougher than she thought, but even so, they soon head off to Salon Roquet.

Suzy starts expressing her doubts about her methods after Misty leaves, but Brock and Ash quickly assure her not to give up on what she believes in, and that they have to stick up for what's on the inside together. Suzy wonders how it can be done, but Brock has a plan. If customers want to put style over substance, then give them substance with style.
 
Soon enough, Suzy, with the assistance of Ash and Brock, is giving a lecture on Pokémon Breeding and treatment. Suzy explains that if a Pokémon has been injured in a battle, it should be given a therapeutic massage. She is demonstrating on Pikachu as she explains.
 
Outside Salon Roquet, the crowd gradually disappears. Misty looks around in confusion, but then meets the person who had gotten the Chansey earlier. He explains that everyone's over at Suzy's, where she's giving a series of lectures on Pokémon care.
 
Back at Suzy's, Ash begins to demonstrate the massage technique they were taught on Pikachu. While Ash is giving the massage, Suzy explains that good communication between Pokémon and {{pkmn|Trainer}} are vital to bring out a Pokémon's true personality. Brock adds that a technique is only as good as the trainer or breeder who uses it. Three of the trainers look at their over fashioned Pokémon and start to doubt if it was right.
 
Back at Salon Roquet, Jessie and James are putting the finishing touches on a {{p|Squirtle}}. James has an emotional artist moment about roses being the flowers of love and romance, though he mentions they also paint daffodils. The Squirtle simply shrugs and sighs. It doesn't seem to be a fan of its new look.
 
Jessie orders Meowth to send in the next customer, tout suite. Meowth complains that it's counting money, but then realizes there's only one customer left. Jessie and James don't care, and Meowth's starting to worry that maybe they're forgetting what the point of this scam really is.
 
Misty then enters with Psyduck. Team Rocket reacts with shock when they realize who it is, but quickly compose themselves. They then drag Misty in, despite her protests that Psyduck was the one who needed the fashion makeover, but when she sees the results, she loves them. She asks if they try even more, and Jessie and James happily oblige.
 
Meowth suddenly butts in, saying that she hangs around with that Pikachu. Misty recognizes him instantly, and Jessie and James start stomping and elbow-dropping him respectively for blowing their cover. Meowth angrily slashes them, ripping off their disguises and revealing them as Team Rocket.
 
Misty screams that she'll never tell them anything, but James threatens to paint her face like Frankenstein if she doesn't. She quickly mulls it over, then starts screaming for Psyduck. But wait a minute, Psyduck is gone!
 
Psyduck is racing back to Suzy's Breeder Salon, where it goes into one of its usual Psyduck panics. Pikachu realizes instantly what it's saying: Misty's in danger! Pikachu takes off, Brock and Ash following. They make their way back to Salon Roquet, where they face off against Team Rocket.
 
But then they see Misty, and wonder what happened to her face. They manage to restrain their laughter, and demand they let Misty go. Team Rocket refuses, claiming they're conducting "important beauty research" on her.
 
This starts an argument between Suzy and Team Rocket about the beauty inside and the beauty outside. Meowth, however, interrupts, because they don't know anything about breeding. The whole Salon Roquet was designed as a scam all along!
 
To quote Meowth, "It was a brilliant plan! Part 1: Come up with some dumb Pokémon fashions and take piles of money from gullible trainers. Part 2: If a trainer brought in a rare Pokémon, they would distract the trainer, then steal the Pokémon on the spot!" (Note that the crowd has now gathered around, so they heard the whole thing.)
 
Team Rocket offers a trade: Misty for Pikachu. Ash isn't about to take any deals, however, and challenges them to a battle. Team Rocket, however, has prepared for this, and pushes a button on a Microphone, presenting the Salon Roquet Battling Platform! They proceed to give a new variation of [[Team Rocket's mottos|their motto]].

Blurb

At Brock's persistent request, our heroes stop by Caesar Street, a town of breeders famous for its Pokémon beauty salons. Brock makes a special request to visit a salon called Coron. The owner of the Beauty Salon, Coron, is a breeder who has received the most superior ranking in the Pokémon Breeder Contest for three years straight. Recently, a store called Salon Roquet has been introducing outrageous fashions, making wild profits and disrupting long-term shop-owners.

Plot

Ash and his friends find themselves on Scissor Street, also referred to as Breeder's Lane. Brock explains that it is well known for its high-end Pokémon salons and beauty parlors. Misty pauses outside of one venue in particular to examine a poster featuring a Koffing and Ekans adorned with a number of gaudy accessories. Inside the salon, named Salon Roquet, Team Rocket enacts their latest moneymaking scheme, running a bustling beauty parlor. They give a woman's Raichu and Dodrio a makeover, much to the displeasure of both Pokémon. Misty considers getting in line, but is interrupted by Brock who announces that he has found the store he is looking for. Ash and Misty follow him a short distance to a less crowded storefront, whereupon Brock is suddenly struck by a fit of apparent nervousness and freezes. Oblivious, Ash and Misty enter first and are greeted by a feminine voice that snaps Brock back to reality.

Inside, they meet a Pokémon Breeder named Suzie, after she finishes gently massaging a Chansey for a customer. However, Misty quickly shifts her attention to a Vulpix that is fast asleep on a chair. Ash scans it with his Pokédex while Misty approaches the sleeping Pokémon. Misty, enthralled by the cute Vulpix, picks it up while offering numerous compliments. However, Vulpix, annoyed by the interruption of its nap, fires a Flamethrower at Misty's face before falling back asleep. Brock, who has been unusually silent up to this point, suddenly blurts out that he wants to become Suzie's pupil. Everyone is shocked, especially Suzie, who explains she does not have time for students due to her busy workload. After Ash asks, Brock explains that Suzie is a highly accomplished and popular Pokémon Breeder. Misty asks about Vulpix, but Ash cuts Brock off before he can go into detail about how terrific a model the Pokémon is.

Later, Suzie serves tea for the three while Pikachu happily munches on some food. Suzie compliments Pikachu's shiny coat, and asks if Brock makes his food. Brock replies that he does, and Misty explains that it is Brock's own recipe. Suzie explains that she too got into Pokémon breeding because of her interest in Pokémon nutrition. During this exchange, Vulpix suddenly joins Pikachu in eating his food. This surprises Suzie, who explains that Vulpix usually does not eat anything she has not made herself.

Misty decides to ask Suzie about all the flashily dressed Pokémon they saw outside. Suzie points out that ever since Salon Roquet opened up, Trainers have been focusing on making their Pokémon look as flashy as possible, though Suzie laments that this clashes with her goal of bringing out the inner strengths and personality of Pokémon. Ash agrees, explaining that he feels showing off is a waste of time. However, Misty counters that even Pokémon like to dress up once in a while. This leads to an argument between Ash and Misty about what is more important for a Pokémon and its Trainer. Ash jokingly suggests that, if fashion is so important to Misty, she should take her Psyduck over to Salon Roquet. Misty loves the idea and calls out Psyduck, much to Ash's amusement.

After Misty heads out, Suzie expresses doubt in her own methods, but Brock and Ash quickly reassure her. Brock suggests a way in which Suzie can compete with the growing popularity of salons like Salon Roquet. Soon after, Suzie explains that if a Pokémon has been injured in a battle, it should be given a therapeutic massage, which she demonstrates on Pikachu. As Brock had hoped, Suzie's lecture starts to draw the crowd away from Salon Roquet. As Suzie, Ash, and Brock demonstrate the importance of good communication between Pokémon and Trainer, Trainers arriving from Salon Roquet begin to doubt if they made the right choice.

Meanwhile, at Salon Roquet, Jessie orders Meowth to send in the next customer, though they are shocked to see it is Misty with her Psyduck. Team Rocket drag her in for a makeover of her own, with her protests that Psyduck was the one who needed the makeover falling on deaf ears. Despite this, she loves the bright and flashy results, and asks the undercover Jessie and James to continue. Annoyed at the attention being given to Misty, Meowth mentions Pikachu and that they should interrogate her until she tells them where he is, tipping Misty off to his identity. Jessie and James begin attacking Meowth, chastising him for blowing their cover, as they had already intended to do what he had suggested prior to his outburst. Meowth scratches them, revealing their true identities. Misty screams that she will never tell Team Rocket anything, but James grabs her and threatens to paint her face like Frankenstein if she does not. Thinking that over for a moment, she suddenly realizes that Psyduck has gone missing. In fact, Psyduck has run back to Suzie's salon, where it tells Pikachu that Misty is in trouble. Pikachu signals that Misty is in danger, and takes off, with Brock, Ash, and Suzie following close behind.

They make their way back to Salon Roquet, where they face off against Team Rocket in order to save Misty, who they have tied to a chair. They are startled and amused to see what Team Rocket has done to Misty's face, but Team Rocket defends the bizarre makeover, claiming they are conducting important beauty research. This starts an argument between Suzie and Team Rocket about whether beauty is on the inside or the outside. Meowth, however, interrupts by revealing Team Rocket's fraudulent intentions. Team Rocket offers a trade: Misty for Pikachu. Ash refuses and challenges them to a battle. However, James pushes a button on a microphone which summons their latest invention, the Salon Roquet Battling Platform.

Jessie sends out Ekans, and James sends out Koffing, both of which are still dressed in their ridiculous outfits. Ash sends out Pikachu, and Brock uses Geodude. Brock orders a Seismic Toss, and Geodude carries Ekans into the air and flings it down. However, Ekans turns the momentum of the throw into a spinning wheel strike and slams into Pikachu. Ash calls for a Thunder Shock, but the spinning of Koffing and Ekans makes their extravagant outfits deflect the lightning. James orders Sludge, blinding both Pikachu and Geodude. But as Team Rocket's Pokémon are sent in to finish them off, Ekans and Koffing end up tripping over their outfits, halting the attack. Meowth tries to help the tangled Pokémon, but Vulpix cuts in. Suzie makes her stand and exclaims that if people only focus on their Pokémon's outer beauty, its inner strength will be lost. Vulpix's powerful Fire Spin drives the message home and sends Team Rocket blasting off. Brock takes the opportunity to explain to the crowd that Vulpix is a prime example that a cute exterior hides inner strength. The crowd, taking the words to heart, begin to remove all the flashy items from their Pokémon and wipe off the applied makeup. Misty, who was accidentally charred by the Fire Spin, is furious at Psyduck for not helping her, unaware of the part that it had already played in her being found, and demands that the Water type untie her.

Back at her salon, Suzie thanks Ash and his friends for helping her regain confidence in her beliefs. She plans to leave the salon for a while and go on a journey to learn what it truly means to be a Pokémon Breeder, and proclaims she is still a student and now Brock's rival. Suzie says that Brock is the first person other than herself that Vulpix has shown affection to, and asks that Brock take care of Vulpix for her while she is on her journey. Brock gratefully accepts, and transfers the small Fox Pokémon to its new Ball. Meanwhile, Ash looks at Misty's made-up face again and cracks up laughing, angering her.

Soon enough, Ash and his friends are on their way once again and wave goodbye to Suzie. Meanwhile, Team Rocket runs past, pursued by a crowd of their angry former customers.
