In the anime
Desert Resort was first mentioned in Team Rocket's mission briefing with Giovanni in BW009. It is said that a meteor is located within the desert, and as such, they are told to go to there to retrieve it.
In BW022, the trio along with Pierce and Professor Seger travel in helicopter above the barren desert and retrieve the meteorite they are looking for. Ash, Iris and Cilan meet up with Professor Juniper to travel to the Desert Resort because of Team Rocket's unusual activity.
The Desert Resort will play a major role in BW023 and BW024.
