The group are introduced to Maylene and Ash immediately asks for Gym Battle. However, Maylene declines his request because she has lost her self-confidence as a Gym Leader due to Paul...

• Ash and his friends arrive in Veilstone City and meet Maylene, the local Gym Leader and her Lucario.
• Ash meets Reggie, Paul's brother and a Pokémon Breeder who takes care of Paul's additional Pokémon (including, at this point in time, his Electabuzz).
