Bidoof (Japanese: ビッパ Bippa) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves into Bibarel starting at level 15.

Biology

Physiology

Bidoof are small brown rodent-like creatures with large front teeth which they use for gnawing on wood. They have round tufts of fur on their tails and a ring of them on their faces. Bidoof has a red nose, a black snout and a paler-colored underside. They also have black, slightly webbed paws.

Gender differences

The tail of a male Bidoof consists of five tufts of fur, while the tail of a female only has three.

Special abilities

Behavior

Bidoof need to constantly gnaw on hard substances to keep their teeth ground down, since they grow constantly. Without something to gnaw on, they become violent because of the pain and inconvenience the unwieldy growing teeth cause.

Habitat

Bidoof build their nests along the side of bodies of water.

Trivia

  • A guest comic to the webcomic VGCats parodied Bidoof by giving it the nickname the "Vendor Trash" Pokémon.
  • In each region, there is a two-stage Template:Type2 Pokémon encountered early in the region. Bidoof is the Sinnoh variation on this theme, while Rattata, Sentret, and Zigzagoon are those of other regions. Out of all of them however, Bidoof is the only one whose evolution is not pure Normal-type.
  • Bidoof's Platinum Pokédex entry references Rattata despite not being in the same regional Pokédex as it.

Origin

Bidoof appears to be based on a beaver, or a gopher. It is particularly similar to the mountain beaver, a primitive relative of beavers lacking tails.

Name origin

Its name is derived from beaver and doofus or tooth. Bidoof's Japanese name Bippa is derived from the English word beaver and 出っ歯 deppa, protruding tooth.

In other languages

  • German: Bidiza - From Biber (beaver).
  • French: Keunottor - From quenotte (milk tooth) and castor (beaver).
  • Korean: 비버니 Beaverni
  • Chinese: 乳齒瀨
