Trivia

Origin

Appearance-wise, this Pokémon resembles the dinosaur known as dilophosaurus. It is also based on an iguana.

Name origin

Sceptile's name is a play on reptile and sceptre, perhaps referring to the golden seeds on its back, or possibly sectile, referring to the long, sharp blades growing on its body. Its name may yet even be a reference to the fern genus Sceptridium, as its tail does appear to be similar to a fern. Its Japanese name may be based on 樹海 jukai, abundant leafage.

In other languages

  • German: Gewaldro
  • French: Jungko - A combination of jungle and gecko.
  • Korean: 나무킹 Namuking - A combination of tree and the word "king".
