Walkthrough:The Crown Tundra/Part 3
The Terrible Titans Lurking Locked Away
Our next quest involves Legendary Clue 2, four separate pages about "The Legendary Giants". Each page gives a location where one of these giants sleeps, and instructions for how to potentially open them - the only problem is that the instructions are incomplete.
Enter the Giant's Bed, and head south, past the Old Cemetery, until you reach the river that leads to Ballimere Lake. When you do, bear left through the trees, and you should find the Rock Peak Ruins.
Rock Peak Ruins
The first time you approach the Rock Peak Ruins (or one of the other Ruins, should you decide to tackle those first), you'll get a phone call from Peony. He'll explain that nobody has ever been able to open the doors, before dramatically entitling your quest as "The Terrible Titans… Lurking Locked Away!"
Ascend the steps, pick up TR75 for Stone Edge on the right-hand side, and interact with the doors. It'll tell you the clue needed to open them - “Let the first Pokémon hold a never-changing stone.” The stone in question here is an Everstone - there was one you could pick up in Turffield, but if you don't have it anymore you can acquire another from the Digging Duo in Bridge Field, through Poké Job rewards, on wild Roggenrola, Boldore, and Gigalith (at a 50% chance), through using the Cram-o-matic, or as a respawning item throughout the Crown Tundra and Isle of Armor.
With the Everstone equipped, interact with the doors again, and they should open for you. It doesn't matter if the first Pokémon in your party is knocked out - as long as it's holding the Everstone the doors will open, allowing you to enter.
Inside the Ruins you'll see a large statue in front of you, with seven dots on the floor that match the pattern on the statue's face. If you step on one of the dots it will light up, and if you step on it again it will turn off. Step on each of the seven spots to light them all up, and the statue will light up as well. Talk to the statue and the game will tell you a rocky power is emanating from it, and ask if you want to check it out. Once you're ready, say yes, and you'll begin a battle with the legendary titan Regirock.

Regirock is level 70, and carries the moves Stone Edge, Superpower, Hammer Arm, and Curse. As Regirock has enormous physical bulk, with a defense stat of 200, weakening it will be easier with special moves rather than physical ones, especially if it boosts its defense with Curse. Burning it might also be a good strategy to reduce the damage output of its attacking moves, which all hit on the physical side. Alternatively, putting Regirock to sleep or paralyzing it will also both make the battle easier and improve the catch rate. A nice quality of life feature is that you no longer have to worry too much about knocking it out, or running to prevent your whole team being swept - if either of these happen, you can just activate the battle again whenever you wish.
Once you catch Regirock, you will note down your progress on Legendary Clue 2, before Peony will call you again, congratulating you and urging you to find the rest of the titans.
With Regirock secured, we're off to the Snowslide Slope. Make your way up the hill until the first two ruined buildings, where you had the option to plant the Iceroot Carrots. Behind the building on the left you'll find a path that heads down a hill into a clearing with a couple of Raid Dens. Continue following the path, head through the small tunnel in the mountain, and you'll find the Iceberg Ruins.
Iceberg Ruins
March up the stairs to the Iceberg Ruins, and interact with the door, and you'll get the clue to open it - “Walk together with a living crystal of snow.” The living crystal of snow is a Cryogonal, which can be found in various locations across the Crown Tundra, and to walk together with it, move it to the front of the party and, if you have the option to have your lead Pokémon follow you enabled, interacting with the door again will open. If you chose to have your Pokémon stay in their Balls, you can change by talking to the girl in the Eevee costume in Freezington, in the house with the old woman and the Spheal outside.
Inside the Ruins you'll find a familiar setting - a large stone statue on the far wall, and spots on the floor that match the pattern on the statue's face. Just as in the Rock Peak Ruins, step on the spots to light them up, and activate the statue. Talk to the statue, which is emanating an icy power, and confirm you wish to check it out. This will start the battle with Regice.

Regice is also level 70, and knows the moves Ice Beam, Icy Wind, Amnesia, and Zap Cannon. Whereas Regirock is a physical attacker with massive physical defense, Regice is a special attacker, with a whopping 200 base special defense. As such, burning will not cut its damage output, but could still provide valuable chip damage as well as improving the catch rate. Amnesia will boost its special defense even higher, so physical moves are much more potent in dealing damage. As with Regirock, putting it to sleep or paralyzing it helps to reduce its threat and makes it easier to catch. You don't need to catch it on your first encounter either - if you need to flee, or you accidentally knock it out, you can start the battle again by interacting with the statue.
After you catch Regice, and jot down your progress on Legendary Clue 2, Peony calls you again (how does he always time these perfectly) to commend you, and to remind you to seek out the remaining giants.
The Iron Ruins are our next destination. Head back into the Giant's Bed, and make your way west, to the cliff face where it meets the area of Frostpoint Field that goes down from the Freeze Inn, and you'll find the Iron Ruins.
Iron Ruins
Go up the stairs of the Iron Ruins, and find out the clue from the door - “Let ring the piercing note that will wake the giant of steel.” This is the easiest of the riddles to solve - just whistle by pressing the left stick (you need to dismount the Rotom Bike to do this), and the doors will part in front of you, allowing you to enter.
The Iron Ruins, much like their counterparts, have a large stone statue on the far wall, with a pattern on its face matched by dots on the floor. Step on all the dots to light them up, and this will activate the statue. When you're fully prepared, talk to the statue, which is emanating a steely power, and confirm you want to investigate further to initiate the battle with Registeel.

Registeel is level 70, and knows the moves Heavy Slam, Iron Defense, Charge Beam, and Flash Cannon. While Regirock's stats are skewed towards the physical side, and Regice's towards the special side, Registeel is more balanced, with 75 base attack and special attack, and 150 base defense and special defense. As such, it's harder to pinpoint a clear method of attack, other than whittling it down with burn damage, which also cuts the damage of Heavy Slam, or afflicting it with a different status condition such as sleep or paralysis to stop it getting attacks off. While Registeel can use Iron Defense, it has no way of boosting its special defense, so special attackers will likely see more success. Be careful of Charge Beam - while it's not the most powerful move, and does not get the STAB boost, it can increase Registeel's special attack, which cannot be dropped as a result of its Clear Body ability, and after a couple of stat raises Flash Cannon becomes a real weapon. Again, if for any reason you need to run, or accidentally knock Registeel out, you can initiate the battle as many times as you need to by interacting with the statue, until Registeel is successfully captured.
Once you catch Registeel, and update Legendary Clue 2, it's time for the customary Peony call, where he remarks how pleased he is with your progress, and pushes you on to find the others.
There's only one part of this quest left - the Split-Decision Ruins. To get there, head to the Giant's Foot (the fly points on the East of the Giant's Bed or at the bottom of Snowslide Slope are useful for this, if you've unlocked them), on the far side of the Giant's Bed. Once you're there, go through the tall grass until you reach the river. Using your upgraded Rotom Bike, cycle upstream into the Roaring-Sea Caves. Turn right at the top of the river, and follow the path to a hub, with multiple branching paths, and take the route directly opposite you. Follow the snaking path out of the tunnel and you'll reach the Frigid Sea.
From the Frigid Sea, take a hard right over the water, through the icebergs, and you'll reach land, with a single coniferous tree on the right of the path. Continue inland and you'll move into the Three-Point Pass. The Three-Point Pass, as you might expect, branches out into two separate directions - go right, and you'll re-enter the Roaring-Sea Caves, but if you take the left path you'll find yourself in front of the Split-Decision Ruins.
Split-Decision Ruins
The Split-Decision Ruins are quite striking in appearance compared to their counterparts. They appear to be cut almost perfectly in half, with the left section in yellow while the right side is red. Climb the stairs, pick up the TRs for Thunder (TR09, to the left) and Outrage (TR24, to the right), and interact with the doors to receive your final riddle - “A giant of rock. A giant of ice. A giant of steel. When gather the three giants, the door of destiny shall be opened.” Put the three titans, Regirock, Regice, and Registeel, in your party, and interact with the doors again, at which point they will open and allow you inside.
Once again you find yourself opposite a large stone statue, with a pattern of dots on the floor that mimic the ones on its face. As before, stepping on these spots lights them up, but activating all of them does not trigger the statue. Instead, you must light up the pattern that corresponds to either Regieleki or Regidrago - you can cross check these from the outside of the ruins, or by checking the fourth page of Legendary Clue 2. Once you have a valid pattern lit, the statue will illuminate. You check which Pokémon will awaken from the change in aura around the room, and by interacting with the statue, which will be emanating either an electric or draconic power. The statue will get you to confirm whether you wish to continue - if you select yes, it is at this point where your decision has been made, and even if you run from battle or knock the Pokémon out, you cannot reset the pattern to battle the other titan. Setting the floor into the electric pattern awakens Regieleki, while the dragon pattern brings forth Regidrago.

Both Pokémon are found at level 70. Regieleki has a moveset consisting of Thunder Cage, Electroweb, Magnet Rise, and Extreme Speed. A mixed attacker, Regieleki has 100 base attack and special defense, but is very frail, with only 50 defense and special defense. Its main gimmick is its speed - with 200 base speed, it is comfortably the fastest Pokémon ever, with Deoxys Speed Forme a distant second at 180. It is quite amusing that it carries not only the priority move Extremespeed, but also Electroweb, which drops its opponents speed by one stage, as it will almost certainly outspeed you anyway, unless you strongly outlevel it, or have lots of speed investment. Thunder Cage can be annoying, dealing tick damage and trapping your Pokémon on the field, while Magnet Rise makes it immune to Ground-type moves, and thus no longer have any weaknesses. While Regieleki cannot be paralyzed as an Electric-type, it can still be put to sleep to improve its catch rate and allow you to weaken it, while burning it can give valuable chip damage and reduce the damage from Extremespeed. Another strategy is to take advantage of type coverage - as it only has Electric-type and Normal-type moves, it cannot hit Pokémon that are both Ghost-type and Ground-type, such as Golurk and Runerigus, so they could be valuable options in assuring your success.
Regidrago's moveset is Dragon Energy, Dragon Claw, Laser Focus, and Hammer Arm. Regidrago, like Regieleki, has 100 base attack and special attack, as well as 50 defense and special defense. The difference between the two is that Regidrago only has 80 speed, but an enormous 200 base HP. With Laser Focus, it can guarantee its next move will be a critical hit, while Dragon Energy does more damage the greater the percentage its HP is, hitting for 150 base power when at full health. As such, getting a big hit early to severely weaken the power of Dragon Energy is a great strategy, and you can rely on status conditions after then to improve the catch rate and potentially reduce the damage from Dragon Claw and Hammer Arm with a burn. Interestingly, it does also have the same problem as Regieleki - its starting moveset has limited type coverage, and it is unable to deal any damage to a Pokémon that is both Fairy-type and Ghost-type - as of generation eight, only one such Pokémon exists, but Mimikyu can be found in both the base game and in the Crown Tundra, and will certainly turn the tide of battle in your favor.
When you have captured either Regieleki or Regidrago, you will update Legendary Clue 2, and rather than Peony calling you, the game will instead suggest you go back to base at the Freeze Inn to tell him of your findings. Take a flying taxi back into Freezington, and talk to Peony once inside the Freeze Inn (the flying taxi handily drops you right outside the front door). Tell him that you've caught each of the legends, and he'll tell you how "ultra-mega-brilliant" it is, and once you've talked about all four of the giants you captured, he'll tick off the four section of Legendary Clue 2, bringing a close to this section of your adventure.
