Walkthrough:Pokémon Scarlet and Violet/Part 11

Entering East Province (Area Three)

After you have taken down Mela, you want to fly back to Levincia North as this is the closest Pokémon Center to Orthworm, The Lurking Steel Titan. You can travel to Orthworm as the crow flies, but if you follow the path North from the Pokémon Center there will be a few trainers along the way to help you level up. Makuhita and Carkol are fairly common along this path, and both are good picks for the battle ahead.

Approaching a Titan

Not far up the path Arven will call to let you know that you are close to the Lurking Steel Titan. He’ll warn you that it likes to stay hidden. This tells you that while you are close to Orthworm it might be a little hard to spot. Before we take the Titan on, we want to make sure we’re ready.

Orthworm is a pure Steel-type, meaning it would usually be weak to Fighting-, Fire-, and Ground-type attacks. However, it comes with the ability Earth Eater, which heals it when hit with Ground-type attacks. This means you’ll want to prepare one or two Fire- or Fighting-type Pokémon in order to take it down. The Titan Orthworm is level 29, so your Pokémon should be at least in their mid-20s.

Catch the Worm

Continue up the path and you will eventually see a tunnel through the mountain on the right. This tunnel leads to where Orthworm likes to hang out, and while Arven told you it likes to hide, you can very easily see its huge head poking out from the sand. As you approach it, it will run away but if you keep following the burrowing path eventually it will battle you.

Orthworm has the moves Iron Tail, Sandstorm, Headbutt, and Wrap, so luckily none of these moves are too scary. Orthworm’s main trick is its ability, but as we already know not to use Ground-type moves it shouldn’t be too difficult. Once you take down the first phase Orthworm will burrow through the mountain, and you can follow it for part two of the fight.

The Lurking Steel Titan and Arven

Orthworm is on the other side of the tunnel, but it will run away again when you approach. The same as last time, you’ll need to chase the burrowing worm around a little before it will challenge you. Arven will then join you in battle with his level 28 Toedscool. This Pokémon is mostly supportive, but can deal decent damage with Grass Knot thanks to how heavy Orthworm is.

Once you take down Orthworm you will have another cutscene with Arven where he makes some sandwiches using the new Herba Mystica. As usual Koraidon / Miraidon isn’t too happy about being left out of the picnic time. Give your bike your sandwich, and Arven will give Mabosstiff some bites and hear it woof for the first time in a long time.

After you leave the cave with the Herba Mystica, Professor Sada / Turo will call you. They will tell you that Koraidon can now jump much higher than before if you keep hold of the B button while jumping.

Catch your own Titan

If you return to the place where you fought the first phase of the Lurking Steel Titan fight, you will see a large static Orthworm just laying down outside the tunnel. This is the catchable version of the Titan Orthworm, so grab your best catching Pokémon and some Great Balls, then talk to it to start the battle. There is only one of each Titan in the game, so make sure you’re ready for battle.

It is the same level as it is in the Titan fight and has the same moves. Catch it just like you would any other Pokémon, by weakening it and applying a status if you have a Pokémon that can do so. This Orthworm will have the Titan Mark that confers the title the Former Titan. You can also grab the Orthworm the Great mark by visiting the woman next to the fountain in Mesagoza who judges your Pokémon by their size.

Once you’ve done everything here, we will head to Cascarrafa next for our next Gym challenge.
