Clair's Dragonite (Japanese: イブキのカイリューIbuki's Kairyu) is Clair's fourth known Pokémon. In the past, Dragonite was owned by the original Blackthorn CityGym Leader.
When Team Rocket tried to steal the Dragon Fang, Dragonite was tricked into believing the trio was looking to protect it from Ash, his friends, Clair, and Kaburagi. This ruse continued going into the next episode, until Dragonite caught Team Rocket trying to escape with the Prayer Flame, attacking them with Hyper Beam. After Wobbuffet deflected her Hyper Beam with Counter, Dragonite decided to rely on Outrage, which caused her to go on a destructive rampage, harming the very same land she'd swore to protect. Thankfully with the help of Clair's Dragonair, Ash's Pikachu and Charizard, Dragonite was calmed down and restored to normal, after which she was distraught at seeing the damage she herself caused, but was comforted by the wild Pokémon.
Sometime before A Pokémon of a Different Color!, Dragonite was caught by Clair, and traveled with her to Cave Island on the Decolore Islands. After arriving, Dragonite suddenly flew away, leaving Clair behind. She was soon found by Ash's Charizard and Iris's Dragonite, with the latter getting into a fight with her that Charizard failed to stop. Clair quickly realized the reason for the fighting; Iris's Dragonite was inadvertently stepping on flowers, and due to her love of flowers, Clair's Dragonite was infuriated with him. Then, the two Dragonite work together to open a concealed door leading to a cave containing a ShinyDruddigon, only after briefly fighting each other again.
Personality and characteristics
Dragonite's love for flowers
Dragonite is a very gentle and kind-hearted Pokémon, and long after her original Trainer's passing, she still holds great loyalty and respect for him, deciding to act as the guardian of the Dragon Holy Land to honor her Trainer's memory and takes great pride in keeping the wild Pokémon there safe from harm. She also takes great care of anyone who seeks to protect the land as well, treating Team Rocket with great care and respect after she'd been tricked into believing they were trying to protect the Dragon Fang. Being owned by the original Blackthorn CityGym Leader, Dragonite is very old but is still just as active and powerful as she'd been in the past, with her age not slowing her down in the slightest.
At the same time, Dragonite can display tremendous rage when her beloved land is threatned, attacking Team Rocket after realizing their treachery and going into Outrage after having her own attack reflected at her. In this state, Dragonite went berserk, attacking anything and everything on sight, causing great destruction to the land she'd sworn to protect. After being restored back to normal, she showed great shame and distress after seeing the damage she herself caused to the land. As noted by Clair, Dragonite holds a very strong love for flowers, becoming angry with Iris's Dragonite after he'd accidentally stepped on a flower patch, even attacking him in the process.
Clair's Pokémon Cards listed with a blue background are only legal to use in the current Expanded format. Cards listed with a green background are legal to use in both the current Standard and Expanded formats.
Dragonite appears in The Dragonite's Imperial Wrath, as a Pokémon that lives in the Dragon Holy Land. Just like in the anime, Dragonite gets out of control due to Team Rocket's actions, but after a vicious battle against Ash's Pikachu and the joint action of Ash and Clair, Dragonite manages to return to normal.
