75% HP Drain

According to both analysis on Smogon and also Serebii's page for Oblivion Wing, rather than restoring 50% of the damage dealt as HP, Oblivion Wings heals 75% instead. Is this correct at all? Or are we still waiting for additional confirmation still? Shiramu Kuromu (talk) 18:56, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

We're waiting until we can confirm it firsthand. --Pokemaster97 19:44, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
To expand on Shiramu's point (I understand official confirmation is necessary above all else), while maybe or maybe not exactly 75%, we do know it is certainly not 50%, given the move's description (along with other drain moves added in this generation). I've been wondering about this myself today, so I set up the following experiment:

  • With a Hawlucha leading my party, I wander Route 6 until I encounter a wild Smeargle.
  • Hawlucha uses Endeavor; no effect, but Smeargle Sketches it.
  • Swapping to Yveltal, Smeargle promptly reduces the legendary bird to just 43 HP.
  • After using Oblivion Wing, Yveltal now has 75 HP -- a +32 recovery (or 74.4%). 75% would have been 32.25, so it fits.

And here is the same experiment while holding a Big Root:

  • Another wild Smeargle Sketched and used Endeavor; Yveltal now has 42 HP.
  • After using Oblivion Wing, Yveltal has 84 HP -- an apparent 100% recovery rate. (75% with +30% should be 97.5%).

So should that be specified in the article or what? EnosShayremTalk 23:52, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

How did you know how much damage the move did, Stratelier? --Wynd Fox 00:06, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
When the Smeargle uses Endeavor on Yveltal, it makes the HP of both Pokémon equal. It's implied that Oblivion Wing faints the Smeargle (since you can only get Yveltal at Lv. 70 and the Smeargle on that route are a far lower level), so the amount of HP Yveltal has before using Oblivion Wing is equal to the damage dealt by Oblivion Wing to Smeargle. --AndyPKMN (talk) 00:26, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
Duh, totally forgot what Endeavor did. My bad. --Wynd Fox 00:33, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Move Image

Isn't that the version of the move from the beta? The current version is a lot darker in color. 4Jmaster (talk) 21:47, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Sketch?

What happens if Oblivion Wing is Sketched by a Smeargle (or, for that matter, hacked onto any other pokemon)? The move's animation appears to be specifically designed for Yveltal, so I'd be curious to know what animation is used if another pokemon uses the move somehow. gen IX

is the move still not able to be selected in battle in gen ix as of version 3.0.0? lilycove 17:23, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

Yes, Oblivion wing along with Geomancy can't be used in battle in Scarlet and Violet.Likely due to Yveltal and Xerneas aren't allowed to be transferred in SV. The Cress Fan, Handium (talk) 18:01, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
