Information

Following the worldwide launch of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the focal Pokémon of the third Super Tag series set were the Sinnoh Legends Dialga and Palkia, which appeared as Grade 6 Superstar Pokémon. Several other Generation IV lines were featured, including the evolutionary lines of the Sinnoh first partner Pokémon—the Grade 6 versions of Torterra, Infernape, and Empoleon supported the Super Tag mechanic and featured the final forms of the Generation VIII first partner Pokémon as their tag partners. Other Pokémon with the Super Tag mechanic included Grade 5 versions of Gyarados, Magnezone, Arcanine, Pidgeot, and Runerigus, each of which had an Eeveelution as a tag partner. The remaining Superstar Pokémon comprised Kalos Legends Xerneas and Yveltal, the Colossal Pokémon Regigigas, the Shadow Pokémon Gengar, and the Disguise Pokémon Mimikyu. Xerneas, Yveltal, and Gengar supported the Dynamax mechanic (the latter being able to Gigantamax), as did Grade 5 Star Pokémon Alcremie and Duraludon. Mimikyu could use a Z-Move, as could the Grade 5 Haxorus; Star Pokémon Metagross also supported the Mega Evolution mechanic. Prior Pokémon Rayquaza, Mewtwo, and Mew could be encountered and obtained as Legacy tags from December 23, 2021.

A number of new features were added over the course of this set, all of which required the use of a Memory tag. One of these was the Weekly Stamp (Japanese: ウィークリースタンプ) reward system to encourage regular play. From the launch of the set until February 2, 2022, players who scanned a Memory tag at least once a week would earn a stamp. Accumulating two stamps would unlock a knit hat Dress-up Item for players to customize their avatar; four stamps would unlock a Superstar Sensor (introduced in the previous set); five stamps would unlock an Emblem (Japanese: エンブレム) featuring Regigigas; and amassing all six stamps would unlock another Superstar Sensor. Emblems would randomly add the depicted Pokémon to the player's Support Pokémon roster while playing Get in Battle! mode. The Regigigas available in this set would attack with Giga Impact if summoned and selected. A further feature to be introduced was the Double Star Point Campaign (Japanese: スターポイント2倍キャンペーン), limited periods that doubled the amount of Star Points players could earn during gameplay. The first period was held between December 29, 2021 and January 4, 2022; a second was held between January 22 and February 9, 2022.

Memory tag Missions (Japanese: メモリータグミッション) were another new gameplay feature introduced in this set that challenged players to perform certain in-game feats in exchange for prizes. Six missions were available—players could complete them in any order and had until the launch of the following set to undertake them, but could only complete one per day. Missions comprised such things as attaining a maximum bonus while performing an attack, selecting the maximum bonus on the Attack Roulette, using a supereffective move, or defeating specific Pokémon. Clearing one mission would earn the player 50 Star Points; clearing two would unlock Pikachu as a Partner Pokémon; clearing three would earn the player 100 Star Points; clearing four would unlock a Lucario roleplay Dress-up Item; clearing five would earn the player 150 Star Points; and clearing all six missions would unlock Mewtwo as a Partner Pokémon. The three selectable Partner Pokémon in this set included Axew, Duskull, and Blipbug, which could respectively be evolved all the way to Haxorus, Dusknoir, and Orbeetle by accumulating Star Points. Players using the Mezastar Club at any time during the duration of this set could also receive a digital Support Pokémon Ticket for a Dragapult and a Present Ticket to unlock newsboy cap and glasses Dress-up Items. A limited Present Ticket for a Christmas costume Dress-up Item could be redeemed through the club between December 5 and 25, 2021.

The Trainer and Battle lineup for this set included two returning Trainer classes, Band Girl and Bodybuilder, a new Trainer class in Mountaineer, and a new Star Trainer, Yoctor. Hiroki, reintroduced as the Rumored Trainer class in the previous set, became the Rumored to be Strong Trainer class in this set, fulfilling a similar role to Eri in Pokémon Ga-Olé's Trainer and Battle mode. Mezastar Club members could redeem Battle Tickets for each opponent and face them to unlock new customization options for their avatar. Two limited Battle Tickets were subsequently available through the club and could be used on machines between December 18, 2021 and February 9, 2022.[1] These tickets allowed players to challenge Mezastar Navigators Masato and Ai and coincided with the start of the Challenge from Masato & Ai! campaign, a ranked event in which the players with the top 100 scores could win a certificate. As players could potentially battle two opponents during the event, the highest score of the two would be the one taken into account. Participants who defeated Masato would unlock a Mezastar TV logo cap Dress-up Item for their avatar; those who defeated Ai would unlock a Mezastar TV logo bottoms Dress-up Item. The campaign ran until January 12, 2022.
