When the Pokémon takes damage from a move, it burns the attacker.

Spicy Spray (Japanese: とびだすハバネロ Habanero Eruption) is an Ability introduced during Generation IX, in Pokémon Champions. It is the signature Ability of Mega Scovillain.

Effect

In battle

When a Pokémon with Spicy Spray is hit by a damaging move, the attacking Pokémon will become burned. This occurs even if the move causes the Pokémon with Spicy Spray to faint and even if the attacking Pokémon is hiding behind a Substitute. However, if the Pokémon with Spicy Spray is hiding behind a Substitute, the Ability will not activate. Each hit from a multistrike move activates this Ability; as such, in the same turn, the attacking Pokémon will be burned for a second time if the first burn is healed through a held item, such as a Lum Berry.

Trivia

  • Spicy Spray is the last Generation IX Ability in index number order.
  • Prior to its introduction in Pokémon Champions, Spicy Spray was present in the internal data of Pokémon HOME's Version 4.0.0 update, along with Piercing Drill.
    • The file name for its flavor text, home.sp.tokuseiinfo_Champions.TOKUSEIINFO_Champions_311, followed the same naming convention as other Abilities added in this update, namely Dragonize, Mega Sol, and Piercing Drill.
    • However, as Abilities were not given to any new Mega-Evolved Pokémon added in this update, no Pokémon were confirmed to have this Ability until the official release of Pokémon Champions.
