Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gold Rescue Team (Korean: 포켓몬 불가사의 던전 황금 구조대 Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gold Rescue Team) was a free PC demo of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team. It could be downloaded by players who registered an account on the official Korean Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Special Players Site.[4][5] The demo was released exclusively in South Korea on August 11, 2007, about 3 weeks before Blue Rescue Team's Korean release. The official website was previously available at http://www.pokemondungeon.co.kr/, but has been inaccessible since c. April 2008[6].
The game's subtitle as shown on the title screen is Challenge the Gold Rank! (Korean: 너도 골드랭크에 도전하자!). Like Red Rescue Team, the game is played solely on one 240×160 screen, not the two screens of the DS. The window is enlarged by a factor of 2, increasing the size of the display to 480×320. However, like Blue Rescue Team, the title screen uses a background of white clouds in a blue sky.
The demo's file size is approximately 450 MB, most of this being the sound data.[5][7] The build date shown in the window title bar, PKDi ver 1.0 [Jun 25 2007] 22:53:37,[8][9] is a month after the equivalent build date for the Korean version of Blue Rescue Team, PKDi ver 1.0 [May 17 2007] 19:16:08,[10] indicating that it was developed after Blue Rescue Team.
The demo ran in two windows, one was the demo itself, and the other was a frame that displayed tips and information, a board for rescues, and event announcements from the Special Players Site. The demo could also be launched from the Special Players Site.[11] It's unknown whether the demo itself requires an internet connection to play.
Gameplay
The demo can be played from the beginning of the game at Tiny Woods, up through encountering Xatu at the Hill of the Ancients.[12] Pokémon can be recruited and Friend Areas can be accessed.[13] The Gold Rank is also achievable as well.[14] The demo ends with a message thanking the player and telling them to enjoy the full game too.[15] The demo also doesn't appear to have Wonder Mail, and SOS Mails are in numbers only.[16]
Trivia
- Despite not having been released in Japan, the demo was given a Japanese name (Japanese: ポケモン不思議のダンジョン 黄金の救助隊) in the original name field of the GRB rating.
- The demo has not been available for download since 2008, rendering it lost. A "run.exe" file from the demo was found on Daum Café 고명진 in 2021[17] and shared anonymously to Sawalk in 2024, who uploaded the .zip file containing the .exe to tcrf. As the rest of the game files are missing, when opened, the file will display an error, saying that it could not locate "pkdikr_build233_final.exe" and open a white box before crashing.
