Prior to the aforementioned update, any attempt to get near the front of the building would be met with a female NPC pushing the player back a step, saying that the GWS was not ready yet. This behaved similarly to the GTS in the original games prior to the player obtaining at least one Badge.
In the games
Every time the player performs a Wonder Trade in the GWS, they are asked to pick one of 630 points on a globe called Geonet to trade from. When matched with another player, the game will mark the point chosen by the other player on the player's globe. A single point can save up to five trades at a time. As the player marks more points on the globe, the player will be rewarded with large quantities of Rare Candies.
While unaccessible to players prior to patch 1.3.0, it was possible to glitch inside and access the GWS in prior patches. This was done by using one of the many menu glitches to gain access to the building in patch 1.0.0, saving the game once inside and updating to the latest patch. The service, however, wasn't fully functional due to the lack of server support.
The existence of this location was first revealed only in a footer for the announcement of the game's day 1 patch.[1]
