Flavor text Generation V Powers up special attacks when burned. Generation VI Powers up special attacks when the Pokémon is burned. Generation VII Powers up special attacks when the Pokémon is burned. Generation VIII Powers up special attacks when the Pokémon is burned. Generation IX Powers up special moves when the Pokémon is burned.

Flare Boost (Japanese: ねつぼうそう Thermal Runaway) is an Ability introduced in Generation V. It is the signature Ability of Drifloon and Drifblim.

While the Pokémon with this Ability is burned, the power of its special moves is increased by 50%.

Outside of battle

Flare Boost has no effect outside of battle.

Trivia

• This Ability originated as a TCG Attack.
• Since the only Pokémon capable of having Flare Boost are Drifloon and Drifblim, Pokémon based on balloons, its effect is likely a reference to hot air balloons using burners to heat up, inflate, and fly.
