Battle (TCG Pocket)

Battle is a mode in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.

Versus

In Versus mode, players are able to play matches against one another. Each player is given a timer of 20 minutes total for all of their actions. The timer starts with the player's turn and stops after they end their turn through the End Turn button, Attack, Ability (e.g. Giratina ex's Broken-Space Bellow) or Supporter card (e.g. Kiawe). Any additional animations are included in the opponent's time. If the player's timer runs out, the points of each player are checked. If both players have the same number of points, the Battle ends in a tie.

Each player is given 90 seconds for their turn. If the player doesn't take any action, their turn is forced to end, the generated Energy is discarded if it wasn't attached to any card and no Attack is used.

Private Match

The players can use a shared password to battle other people. Wins in Private Matches do not grant Experience points; however, they are counted towards the "Won ___ versus battles" Achievement.

Random Match

Players are randomly matched against other players around the world. In this mode, players can set their battle stance to Beginner, Casual or Competetive, depending on their skill level.

Event Match

Whenever an Emblem event ran, players could battle other players for profile emblems, which were awarded based on the number of overall victories or consecutive victories. Emblem events were eventually replaced by Ranked Matches.

Starting with Season A2b, each month the players who have unlocked Versus Battles can battle each other for points and go up or down in Rank. Players are matched with opponents based on the rank they are in. At certain ranks, players sometimes can get matched with AI opponents.

Ranked Matches have a more strict timer. If the player's 90-second turn timer runs out, it gets halved the next turn, giving the player only 45 seconds to end their turn.

In order to be assigned a rank, the player must participate in at least one ranked match battle during the season. Each Season lasts around 4 weeks.

The rank system goes from Beginner Rank to Master Ball Rank. Each rank requires a certain amount of points. The player is rewarded a certain number of points for win and a loss, dependent on the rank. The players can get additional rank points by winning consecutive battles. In ranks up to Great Ball Rank 1, the player will not drop down in rank as a result of being defeated in battles. Starting with Season A4, it is no longer possible to demote from Ultra Ball Rank 1 to Great Ball Rank 4 for losing. In Master Ball Rank, players in the top 10,000 by rank points will have their ranking displayed.

Previously, win streak bonuses applied only to those with a rank not higher than Great Ball Rank 4. Starting with Season A3b, win streak bonuses apply to all ranks.

There are 17 ranks, and based on the Rank the players finishes the Season in, they get certain rewards, such as Pack Hourglasses and Emblems. Additionally, the final Rank decides what Rank the player will start the next Season in.

Solo Battles

In Solo battles, players battle against a computer-controlled opponent. Players are allowed to use rental decks or their own player-made decks.

Step-Up Battles

In Step-up Battles, players battle against themed decks (typically based on type) in exchange for rewards. Players can choose from four levels of difficulty: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. Each difficulty offers battles against decks featuring cards from a given Expansion. Players must defeat a given deck before unlocking the next one. Players can choose which Expansion they want to face, and each one offers new decks to battle and rewards for defeating them.

Players earn First-time Rewards for winning against a deck for the first time, including Pack Hourglasses, Shinedust, and Experience Points. Players can earn additional Shop Tickets by completing deck-specific Battle Tasks. The amount of each reward given vary based on the selected difficulty.

Random Battles

Random Battles were added to the game with the Fantastical Parade expansion. Players can play against decks picked from the Step-Up Battles used by a computer-controlled opponent. Similarly to the Step-Up Battles, players can choose from four levels of difficulty: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. The game keeps track of the player's Win Streak and Max Consecutive Wins.

Each difficulty level offers First-Time rewards and Battle Task rewards for earning a specific number of points. Unlike the Step-Up Battles, the player has no choice over what expansion the deck they will be facing is picked from.

Event Battles

Main article: Drop event

In Event battles, players battle against special decks used by a computer-controlled opponent. The decks used are different from the ones found in step-up battles. Rewards for winning these battles include Shop Tickets, Shinedust, and Promo packs, as well as Wonder Hourglasses for completing Battle Tasks. Most of these rewards can be obtained repeatably, with every victory. In order to participate, the player must use Event Stamina. It takes one Event Stamina to participate in any one battle.

Guide

The Battle Guide consists of 15 scripted battles against an AI opponent. They are divided into two categories: For New Players and For Advanced Players. The purpose of the Guide is to introduce the core mechanics of the battle system to the player. Each battle rewards the player with items and select Trainer cards for completing them for the first time.
