Wonder Pick
Wonder Pick (Japanese: ゲットチャレンジ Get Challenge) is a feature in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket unlocked upon reaching player Lv. 2.
Mechanics
A wonder pick (Japanese: ゲットチャレンジ Get Challenge) consists of the cards another player has obtained from a single booster pack. The player may choose from 20 wonder picks at a given time, of which 16 are active and four are expired. If the player has friends, up to four wonder picks from their friends will appear on the board. Only one wonder pick from a single player will be available at a given time.
As of version 1.1.0, in response to the practice of mass automated creation of accounts with the aim of sharing wonder picks, the friends' section of wonder picks now only includes packs opened by players who were already friends at the moment they opened the pack. New friends added afterward will not have a chance to see the pack in Wonder Pick.
Wonder picks shared from friends will feature cards in the same language that friend had their application set to at the time they opened the pack, and this will also be reflected in the language of the set logo that appears on the pick. All other wonder picks will be converted to the wonder picker's own language setting, regardless of the language the pack was originally opened in.
Cards the player has on their wishlist will appear with a pink heart icon overlaid on the top right of the card. As of version 1.4.0, each card has a number overlaid on the bottom right corner, indicating how many copies of that card the player already owns; prior to that version, only a white icon was overlaid on the bottom left of the card to indicate a card that they had at least one copy of, with nothing to distinguish how many copies.
Wonder picking costs wonder stamina (Japanese: チャレンジパワー Challenge Power). The amount of wonder stamina a wonder pick costs (except for bonus picks and promotional picks) is based on the highest card rarity in the booster pack:
| Cost | Highest rarity |
|---|---|
| 1 wonder stamina | |
| 2 wonder stamina | |
| 3 wonder stamina | |
| 4 wonder stamina |
Wonder stamina recharges at the rate of one unit every 12 hours. A maximum of five units of wonder stamina can be held. Wonder Hourglasses (Japanese: チャレンジ砂時計 Challenge Sunadokei, transl. Challenge Hourglass) and Poké gold can be consumed to restore wonder stamina. One hourglass will recharge the wonder stamina gauge by one hour and one Poké gold will recharge the wonder stamina gauge by two hours.
Expired wonder picks may still be selected for wonder picking. Expired wonder picks consume either one rewind watch or Poké gold to restore, as well as the same amount of wonder stamina that an active pick would.
Upon choosing a wonder pick, the cards and items in the wonder pick are flipped face down and shuffled. The player may then choose one of the face-down options. The selected option will be flipped face-up, and the player will receive the card or item.
From version 1.2.0 to 1.5.5, the four options that the player did not choose were revealed one at a time, then the player's selected option was revealed last. Before 1.2.0, and since 1.6.0, the player's selected option is revealed first, then the four unselected options are all revealed simultaneously.
Each wonder pick may only be selected once. Previously selected wonder picks will continue to remain in the Wonder Pick list for the same amount of time that they would have if not selected.
Types of wonder pick
Standard wonder pick
Standard wonder picks allow the player to obtain a copy of one card that another player has received from a booster pack. This will not cause the original player who opened the pack to lose any of their cards. Standard wonder picks persist on the board for a random multiple of 30 minutes, with a maximum duration of 4 hours. Players may be able to share multiple wonder picks, randomly chosen from the booster packs they have opened previously, and different wonder picks from the same player may be made available to different players. Booster packs containing immersive cards, cards of Shiny Pokémon, or Hyper Rare cards cannot be shared. After selecting a card, the player may send a thanks to the player that provided the booster pack for the wonder pick, which will send that player a shop ticket unless that player has already reached the limit of five shop tickets per day from thanks.
Since Deluxe Pack ex packs only contain four cards, if one of these packs appears in a wonder pick, a fifth spot is added, which contains 2 Pack Hourglasses if it is selected. Wisdom of Sea and Sky and Secluded Springs have a chance to contain six-card packs that include a Baby Pokémon; if one of these packs appears in a wonder pick, one of the cards is randomly removed before the remaining five are presented in the wonder pick menu.
Starting with the release of Mega Rising, if the player has collected every diamond-rarity card from the most recent set but is still missing at least one
or ![]()
card from that set, they have a chance to receive extended-duration picks, which are the same as standard wonder picks except they are available for a span of 24 hours, and the pack is guaranteed to contain one of the
or ![]()
cards that they are missing. No more than one extended-duration pack can be offered per player per day.
Bonus pick
Bonus picks allow the player to wonder pick without consuming wonder stamina. During wonder pick events or mass outbreak events, each newly generated wonder pick has a chance to be replaced by a bonus pick, unless the player already has an active bonus pick in their list. Active bonus picks will always appear above standard wonder picks in the list, but below rare picks and Chansey picks if either are present.
Upon reaching Lv. 2 and unlocking Wonder Pick, the player will be prompted to try wonder picking with a special bonus pick, as a tutorial to the mechanic. The card received from this bonus pick is predetermined based on the first pack the player chose to open in the game.
| First pack opened | Bonus pick |
|---|---|
| Charizard | Charmander (illustration rare) |
| Mewtwo | Bulbasaur (illustration rare) |
| Pikachu | Squirtle (illustration rare) |
During wonder pick events, bonus picks originally consisted of two slots each containing a single Wonder Hourglass, two slots each containing a single Event Ticket specific to the current event, and one slot containing one of the event's two designated cards. There was a 70% chance that this card would appear in its standard version, and a 30% chance to be its promotional art version. Starting with Pulsing Aura, Event Tickets were removed in favor of mission rewards, so bonus picks were changed to have one card (which now has a 100% chance to be the promo version) and four slots that contain a Wonder Hourglass.
During mass outbreak events, bonus picks normally consist of some combination of
and ![]()
cards. The first seven events also had a chance to contain picks with two ![]()
cards (chosen from a collection of four) along with a Pack Hourglass, a Wonder Hourglass, and a Shop Ticket in the remaining slots.
Rare pick
During mass outbreak events, each newly generated wonder pick has a small chance to be replaced by a rare pick, unless the player already has an active rare pick in their list. Rare picks will always appear at the top of the list, and when a rare pick is available, this fact will be noted by a blue banner over the Wonder Pick icon on the home screen.
Each rare pick costs 3 wonder stamina to pick, and in the first seven events, they consisted of a ![]()
![]()
![]()
card, two ![]()
![]()
cards, and two ![]()
cards. The ![]()
cards were the same ones that could appear in that event's bonus picks, while the three higher rarity cards were constant for every rare pick within a given event's duration. Later events changed the distribution to two ![]()
![]()
![]()
cards and three ![]()
![]()
cards, with every rare pick having the same contents.
Chansey pick
During wonder pick events, each newly generated wonder pick has a small chance to be replaced by a Chansey pick, unless the player already has an active Chansey pick in their list. Chansey picks will always appear at the top of the list, and when a Chansey pick is available, this fact will be noted by a pink banner over the Wonder Pick icon on the home screen.
Each Chansey pick originally cost 2 wonder stamina to pick, but the cost was reduced to 1 stamina after Pulsing Aura. These picks consist entirely of promotional art versions of the event's two designated cards, such as Chansey and Meowth from the first such event. Before Pulsing Aura, each of the two cards always appeared in at least one slot of the pack; afterwards only 5-0 or 4-1 splits are possible.
Sneak peek
During sneak peek campaigns, the game offers the possibility to peek at wonder picks. While these campaigns are taking place, an orange banner that says "A chance for sneak peeks!" will always appear over the Wonder Pick icon on the home screen (unless it is superseded by the Chansey pick or rare pick banner, when multiple types of event overlap), and a banner that says "Set chance for sneak peeks" (or "Sneak peek campaign underway" before version 1.2.5) will flash at the bottom of the wonder pick list screen. Wonder picks taken during these events will then have a chance to offer a sneak peek; the player will not find out whether a given pick offers it or not until after they commit to spending the wonder stamina to select it.
If a wonder pick offers a sneak peek, this fact will be announced after the cards have been shuffled. The player can then choose one of the five options, but instead of processing immediately as soon as they tap the card, the choice must be confirmed using an extra button labeled "Take a Peek" after highlighting the card they want to select. The chosen card is revealed, surrounded by a magnifying glass frame, but not added to their collection yet. The sneak peek card is then turned face down, and the player can either choose the same option again, knowing what they are going to receive, or make a blind choice from among the other four options. This second choice is taken as the actual pick, and added to the player's collection; there is no additional button press to confirm this second choice like there is for the initial sneak peek.
Below are all the sneak peek campaigns that have been available in the game so far.
