Flair is a type of accessory that can be found in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. It is used to customise the display of cards in battle, either while in play or on entering the field.

There are two different types of flair:

  • Battle flair is displayed in battle, when a card is put into play.
  • Cosmetic flair is displayed while a card is in battle, included in a binder, or showcased on a display board.

In most circumstances, each card has four different flairs that can be purchased for it.

If a card has flair, it can only be traded for a card with flair.

Flair costs

A Series

Flair is usually purchased using card duplicates and Shinedust. A card's rarity will determine how many duplicates, and how much Shinedust, is needed to purchase each flair. For cards with any Diamond rarity, each flair only becomes available once the previous flair has been purchased for that card; for cards of any Star, Shiny, or Crown rarity, all flairs are available to purchase immediately, as are special exchanges for Special Shop Tickets. The only exception is Supporter cards with a ★★ rarity, which have no flairs available and can only be exchanged for Special Shop Tickets.

From the game's release to October 30, 2025, card duplicates were necessary to purchase flairs: 3 duplicates for cards with a ♦ rarity, 2 duplicates for cards with a ♦♦ rarity and one duplicate for cards with the remaining rarities and promotional cards. With the release of B Series, card duplicates are no longer necessary to obtain flairs.

For promotional cards, flairs must be purchased in order. The only exception is promotional cards of which only one copy is obtainable, which only require Shinedust in exchange for flairs, and their flairs can be obtained in any order. Promotional cards cannot be exchanged for Special Shop Tickets or Trade Tokens. The amount of Shinedust required to purchase flair for promotional cards varies, generally aligning with non-promotional counterparts:

No special designs ♦
Holofoil borders and illustrations ♦♦♦

Duplicate cards can only be exchanged if the player will have at least two copies of the card remaining after making the exchange. The ability to exchange cards for Trade Tokens was added alongside the game's trading features on January 29, 2025. It was removed from the game with the discontinuation of Trade Tokens.

B Series

From the Mega Rising expansion onwards, all flairs are available to purchase immediately in any order and all flairs cost the same amount of Shinedust, depending on the card's rarity. For cards of any Star, Shiny, or Crown rarity special exchanges for Special Shop Tickets are available as well. The only exception is Supporter cards with a ★★ rarity, which have no flairs available and can only be exchanged for Special Shop Tickets.

Starting with the Pulsing Aura expansion, a new type of flair for cards with the ♦, ♦♦ and ♦♦♦ rarities was added. The flair is a gold frame for the card and can be obtained automatically if the player collects 10 of the same card. In order to obtain more gold frame flairs, 10 duplicates of a card must be consumed.
