Walkthrough:Pokémon Scarlet and Violet/Part 8

West Province (Area One)

A Declaration of War

Upon reaching the first intersection to the northeast of the North Pokémon Center, you receive a call from Cassiopeia. They inform you that one of Team Star's bases is nearby, and asks if you have decided to join their operation. Agree, and they officially declare you a member of Operation Starfall.

Just then, a man in an academy uniform approaches you, asking if this operation has room for one more member. He introduces himself as Clive, and Cassiopeia demands to know how long he has been spying on the two of you. He downplays their fears, calling you a mutual friend. The voice insists that the operation is not to be taken lightly, but Clive reveals that he has unsettled business with Team Star and always gets the job done. Cassiopeia reluctantly accepts his help, and Clive asks about the identity of the person on the phone; the voice reveals only that they have history with the group.

Cassiopeia then returns the conversation to Operation Starfall, tasking you with raiding each of Team Star's five bases and defeating the squads within. They point to the front gates of the nearby Segin Squad's Base, tucked away between the cliffs to the southeast. The team's code of conduct requires that bosses accept all challenges; if defeated, they must step down from their position. With no one to lead them, the rest of the squad will crumble. Cassiopeia has issued challenges to each base under your name, so Team Star is already aware that you are looking for a fight! Each base is a considerable size and holds a large group of Pokémon inside to fend off intruders, so this is not a mission for just any Trainer. Cassiopeia will assist from afar, while Clive serves as support.

Infiltration

When you approach Segin Squad's Base, you are stopped by a pair of Team Star Grunts. They soon identify you as the one who issued the challenge, and prepare to attack.

Once the first Grunt is defeated, the pair retreats into the base to warn the others. Just then, you receive another call from Cassiopeia. The voice explains that the base houses Team Star's Dark Crew, the Segin Squad. Their boss, Giacomo, is the acting leader of Team Star. Cassiopeia calls him a sharp guy, someone who would not be rattled by a challenge. The voice warns that he will likely wear you down with a wave of Grunts before taking you on himself. Keep defeating as many Pokémon as possible until he shows up!

Prepare to Attack

Organize your party so that the first three Pokémon are fit for battle, then ring the bell on the front gate to begin the assault. Once inside, Clive appears and explains that Team Star has a unique way of doing battle, called a Star Barrage. To fend them off, you must press the R Button to send out up to three Pokémon at the same time to trigger an Auto Battle. If they run low on health, you can speak to Clive or visit one of the base's vending machines to heal them. The Team Star Grunts will heal their Pokémon as well, so stay sharp!

Just then, one of the Grunts can be heard over the PA system, alerting everyone of the intruder. The voice then addresses you directly, promising that defeating 30 Pokémon in under 10 minutes just may cause the boss to show himself. A Star Barrage is lost if all of a challenger's Pokémon are defeated or time runs out. If you should need to retreat, press the Y Button to escape.

Team Star Grunts line the path through the base, and send out wave after wave of Dark-type Pokémon to greet you. Defeat each wave and continue along the path, and you will soon clear the trial. The Grunts then call for help, and Giacomo suddenly appears from inside one of the tents, riding atop a large car.

VS Giacomo

As the boss of Team Star's Dark Crew, Giacomo specializes in Dark-type Pokémon. Dark-type moves are super effective against Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokémon, while Dark-type Pokémon are weak to Bug-, Fairy-, and Fighting-type moves.

Giacomo leads with his Pawniard, a Dark/Steel Pokémon. Both Metal Claw and Fury Cutter can boost its power, and its Defiant Ability increases its physical Attack when any of its stats are lowered. Once Pawniard is defeated, Giacomo sends in his car, which turns out to be a souped-up Revavroom referred to as the Segin Starmobile. Its signature move, Wicked Torque, deals damage and may put the target to sleep.

Aftermath

When the battle ends, Giacomo experiences a flashback of events that occurred around 18 months ago.

Giacomo has just left a meeting with Team Star's big boss, and is met by the team's four other bosses. The group asks about the results of the meeting, where something called Operation Star and a new code of conduct was discussed. The four have no doubt that Giacomo will implement a fair set of rules, but he declines, reminding them of how unpopular his work was during his time as the academy's student council president. The group disagrees, believing that Giacomo has changed and earned their trust many times over since then. He relents, and promises to write the code of conduct after all.

Back in the present day, Giacomo says that he did his best but that there is no going back now, and reluctantly accepts that his days as a boss are over. To prove your victory, he gives you the Dark Badge, a homemade treasure that he calls a Star Badge, and a copy of TM062 (Foul Play). He is impressed by your Pokémon, and asks if you enjoy your time at the academy. Clive enters a moment later; he asks Giacomo why not break up the team and start attending class again, as the group is headed toward expulsion from the academy if they keep up their delinquent ways. Giacomo tells him that they are waiting on their big boss to return, but admits that they have not heard from this person in a year and a half, and their current whereabouts are unknown. The bosses believe that if they keep Team Star active, then the big boss will return one day, but the academy keeps pressing them to disband. Clive mentions how the team must mean a lot to Giacomo, who responds by calling it his greatest treasure.

Cassiopeia Checks In

Outside the front gate, you receive a call from Cassiopeia. They have detected that Giacomo no longer carries his Star Badge, the symbol of his status as a boss. With no leadership, the Segin Squad is sure to fall apart. As a reward, Cassiopeia transfers 5,000 LP to your phone, and expands the library of TM recipes available for crafting.

In addition, the voice informs you that a messenger from their supply unit will be along soon to deliver a variety of TM Materials to you. The call ends, and you are immediately approached by Penny, the girl with the Eevee backpack. The tech-savvy student has been working behind the scenes with Operation Starfall as part of her Treasure Hunt, and is here to deliver your crafting materials. She promises more rewards from Cassiopeia when each further Team Star base is defeated, and wishes you luck against the four remaining bases.
