Trivia
- Yuyama Kunihiko traveled to Italy to visit the ruins of Rome, the city of Naples and the island of Capri to get ideas for the setting of the movie.
- The Korean dub of the movie premiered on July 20, 2006, only 5 days after the Japanese premiere.
- The title card animation sequence begins with a depiction of the hexagonal crystal lattice of ice, however, the orientation of some water molecules is wrong: there should only be one hydrogen atom on every edge and one oxygen atom at every vertex.
- An a capella version of Spurt! is played as the background music in the scenes where Jackie explained why he protects Pokémon and when Ash and May are swimming with Manaphy and Buizel.
- This was the first Pokémon movie to be dubbed by Pokémon USA.
- In the dub, when diamonds and pearls are mentioned for the first time in the movie, Meowth says "Those would be great names for games". When they get mentioned second time, he says "Let's get through this season." Obviously he is referencing the games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and the anime.
- Although the front cover shows Ash controlling some kind of ship, he never actually does this in the movie.
- The clothes Jackie wears during his flashback resemble Gold's.
- Jackie captures a Fearow with his styler, which is most likely a reference to Ringtown's Ranger Leader Spenser and his Fearow.
- Near the climax Ash turns his hat around for the first time in several seasons.
Errors
- When a bird's eye view of the young Jackie surrounded by Pokémon was shown, the long feathers on the Altaria's heads were white instead of the normal blue.
